What is the best fit for a Smith model 69?
I read on a Smith forum that a K frame 686 holster was a good fit but the one I have leaves the gun about 3/4 of an in. high as where my K frame(with no barrel lug) fits perfect. I've also read that an N frame or GP-100 holster is a good fit. I plan on getting the same holster but don't know whether to get a K frame and soften/stretch the leather or get an N frame or GP holster.

Second question, what if any holsters for common modern guns are a good fit for a 3rd. gen Smith auto?
Thanks for any info.

Good leather holsters that fit the gun well provide some amount of friction that aids in retention. It’s generally not advised to treat a leather holster with anything that will soften the leather.

An N-frame would be more in line with a Redhawk.

I had thought about that and wondered if given it would still be a very tight fit even after some stretching it might be ok.

Right but here's where my confusion comes in, in this thread about it over at the S&W forum one guy says a K/L frame holster fit his and another guy said an older Bianchi for a 44 mag(N frame) fit his just right. I'm wanting to get the same holster I have for my K frame but as I said the fit is off some but not a lot so I'm not sure whether an N frame holster would be too big/loose.
