I have traveled a lot in the last few years and I find it amazing the lack of courtesy that exists in so many places around the world.

On a subway I have seen a pegnant woman standing while some teenage punk kid sat with his legs across an open seat!

I cannot sit if there is one woman standing! I have gotten up many times and given my seat away to a woman or elderly man, almost all have thanked me, and some have been almost shocked. To me that is just what you do.

The look of contempt I get from the younger girls at school when I open a door just floors me every time. LIke I'm doing something weird or wrong for opening the door for them. All it does is motivate me to teach my daughter better manners so she doesn't end up like them when she's older.

Well at some point in the day guys end up taking a seat too. I have yet to ever fall in, sooooo uhhh, must be a chick problem....:D

Okay, I'm ready:nutkick:

Must be like the FoodSaver thing ... it's in the DNA ... :anyone:

All I know is if I leave something in a certain position I think I should be able to expect it to be in that same position when I come back to it later! :grumble: *sigh*

It's not so much of a problem now that GC works nights! ;):mosh:

Hi,

It depends on the person. It seems like when I first moved to Oklahoma around 13 years ago, it was a nicer place where more people would be polite and hold doors for others, etc. It could be that I was coming from Illinois where no one was ever polite, ever. I have noticed a decline in politeness here in the last years. However, it depends on the person. One day I held the door for an older woman at the post office and ushered her to go first and she was absolutely surprised. She even commented that it was rare for people to be polite these days.

Today, at Taco Bueno, I was utterly surprised when an older woman held the door for me! No offense to older folks, but so many of them have an attitude that the world needs to bend for them and serve them. I gave her a "thank you; I appreciate it" and she deserved more praise for being polite.

Thanks,

Alan

I have never seen OHP pass a stranded motorist. I've never seen a city cop stop and help a stranded motorist.

I broke a timing belt on SW 104, I had already called a tow truck, but an OKC officer pulled up behind me with his overhead lights on to check on me. He stayed there until the tow truck arrived to make sure that I did not get rear ended.

I have seen OHP pass a person just once. 11 years ago I was out by Gage in a snow storm and my water pump died it was around 7am I had no phone so I started walking. About a mile or so later a trooper drove by coming from the direction of my truck and he just kept going I didn't hear him come up behind me because I was freezing and wrapped up in my coat. After he passed I tried waving him down and he kept going. Since then when if I am broke down and an officer goes by he stops.

here is a list of things on the endangered list these days.
chivalry
common sense
common decency
respect
manners

So I saw a young couple on the side of the road with a flat and I could tell they were dead-ass broke. I carried them to Blair and payed to get their tire fixed.
A week later my alternator went out and I was walking home in the middle of the night.
My neighbor's 17 year old daughter stopped and picked me up.
I asked her "how'd you know it was me?''
Damnit child, you caint just be assisting strangers in the middle of the night.
She told me she carried a .45 Sig and I forgave her

I always make sure the wheel nuts are not overtorqued so my wife will be able to handle it herself. Tire shops love to use the air tools and don't bother with a torque wrench.
As for chivalry, it's been beaten out of many men. You can only take so much being crapped on before you give up.
