Acres and acres of public hunting and fishing.....comparing to some friends that are from IL.

IL must be really hard up for public lands, since Oklahoma is more than 92% privately owned. Compare that to NM, which is about 66% public land. Just sayin'.

I was born and raised here. I lived for a year and a half in Phoenix. Busy, and not so nice people. Phoenix, I mean. I plan on dying here, but not for a very, very long time. Pay is not so great, on average, but the cost of living is much less, so it works out.

I grew up in northern Illinois and southern Michigan. I've lived in Wichita Ks. and Houston Tx. None of those places are Hell but you can see it from some of them. I've been in Oklahoma for 15 years now and I can honestly say it can be much worse.

I could see Hell when I lived in Lawton. It was right across the state line...

I think the people in Illinois own a great deal of Wisconsin's land, vacation wise. The poorer folks in Wisconsin call them "FIBS", which stands for F--in' Illinois Bastards, so they tell me (my poorer friends in Wisconsin).

You mean the lists created by those trying to be above others and trying so hard to shape the world in their way, or the ones that get paid to make lists? Oklahoma sure never made any lists of attorney top pay. Why would you look to them?...

Do you listen to the evening news or read local newspapers? They all the time are stating how we rank low in health, education, life expectancy, etc.

As for attorney pay, I'm doing OK, so I don't understand that comment.

Isn't that kind of like ummmm trying to "herd" people or society to be a certain way? What I think you see as herding the rest of the world sees as normal. You just don't like the thought that being different whether you or others and not being as well fitted. I think Oklahoman public is very excepting. The sad part is that all too often there are the few that cry about the life and world they moved into and ruin it for the majority.

Not being an ass about spelling or word use, I make my own share of mistakes, but did you mean to type "accepting" as in the Public accepts others? If so, I disagree somewhat, the recent flap over the Muslim LEO Day shows that there are many here who do not accept others. If you meant excepting as in "excepts from the group," I'd tend to agree with more. One only need look at the various churches to see how many of the people treat one another.

As far as me not fitting in, I am a 6'1, 300lb blue eyed white redneck, everywhere I look in Oklahoma, I see people like me.

You having the profession that you do no doubt see plenty of this. If everyone would just do their thing and leave others to theirs this mentality would not surface. If you step into a place a piece where it doesn't fit, should the puzzle have to adjust?

Oklahoma works great, some just don't like it and refuse to look on, or maybe they have found that they are the problem, they don't fit in anywhere, and think this is the path of least resistance. It's not a personal insult, it's the attempt to change that in which works well, and is enjoyed everyday by the masses. Therefore, if you are the square peg, you can love being out of place, or leave and find a square hole. It's not that your not welcome, but your not welcome to destroy all to fit your one.?...

I'm not trying to destroy anything. This is my home, a lot of my family is here, and I have been afforded the opportunity to do very well here, so do not think I am bashing Oklahoma, I am not. I am simply saying that like many other places, we have a lot of problems. Why sugarcoat them?

I don't know for sure about everyone, but saying that we are all cattle or the like and are herded as if unable to think for ourselves is just insulting to me...

I think we have a little higher level of hypocrisy here. I see in in my practice. I see it in business. Maybe it is because of the large numbers of churches, maybe it is a reluctance to initially say what we really mean, but there are lots of folks with a sense of entitlement or hypocritical attitude. Of course that's everywhere, but it's just a tad bit more ironic here where the contrast is so obvious.

Bloodsuckers..... er.... a..... lawyers are a cynical bunch. Except for a handful that truly try and help people, they're a bunch of moneygrubbers.

I grub my share and more. ;)

Totally right on the "accepting" lol, Brain fart! Not even real sure what the hell I was thinking tossing that one in there. At 6' 1" 300lbs it sounds as if you are contributing to the problem on those lists. I don't mean that in a mean way, but really. Who cares if people choose to live that way or are naturally of greater mass.

My point is, who are those lists supposed to be geared towards? Are they supposed to make those contributing to them feel bad, or outrage and embellish those on the other side of the scale?

As for many of the other lists, I think Oklahoma and it's design helps to put us up there. I think MANY of these other states pad their numbers or fail to report a lot. Per capita there is no way we should be that high up on a lot of those.

As for the Muslim thing well.... I know there is no way to convince you of a lot of this. It's something some of us have lived and seen through and through. I'm not speaking just of those who have deployed. The Muslim faith has been a menace to man since it's conception. It's no coincidence that every country that follows this faith is at war, recovering from one, or planning one. Hell, the middle east has been at war with each other for a thousand years! I don't jump on bandwagons. That is not narrow minded thinking man.... As I stated before, I don't like it, but the facts are what they are, and there is nothing so far to say otherwise. I witnessed LOTS of nice calm peace loving muslims grab up arms and jump on loaded taliban trucks. All it took was a little religious rally and POOF they were the enemy.

The sense of entitlement and hypocrisy is higher here. I hope that for many it is due to seeing what has been lost, more than just a planted thought by others....

Strangely enough I think we are actually closer to agreeing on a lot of this than we think. lol, but hey I won't try to persuade you or herd you into the pen:D

If you read my posts whenever Muslim this or Islam that comes up, I always start off by saying "I'm no fan of Islam." And I am not.

Having said that, there are many American Muslims. Oh, but Islam is a religion of violence. What do we do with them? Treat them like 2nd class citizens?

Who's next?

This goes back to the hypocrisy. We are quick to wave the flag and proclaim how we dearly love America, but America isn't just football, bar b que, guns and John Wayne. America is Abdul and Jose, and Igor and Hajaan. These people are Americans too.

And i can still hoss up some weight for a fat old man. ;)

BTW, I'll take Oklahoma winters over Wis/Ill winters ANY time! ;)

You know you mention that and I have to wonder! With something annual and destructive like tornadoes, are they a large part of why people are how they are around here? You grow up either suffering or supporting in the aftermath of such things. What goes around comes around, and our weather sure keeps that in the front of the mind.

True, but out west in Califonia there's humongous earthquakes and the annual huge fires and mudslides and if you live much further North, it snows too friggin' much and it's cold as sh*t, :freezing:and if you go too far East, well, you just plain are an ignoramoose who went to far and you may end up with next door neighbors who think you are some dumbass hillbilly and abhor the fact that you actually own (gasp) a firearm, or even worse, more than one! And if you go south of the Red River, well, you are liable to be called a Texan! :ou I just as soon be called a no-good-sumbit*h as that!

Every place has it's issues, but not everyplace has Oklahoma's kind of folks or most people's willingness to step up when called upon. Yet another example, my good man, my daughter and son in law lived south of Wash DC in a suburb called Aquia Harbor; their house there was at least three times the cost of my somewhat nicer, larger house here. He had at least an hour to an hour and a half drive each way to and from work. Here; we complain about the traffic if we're the third car at the stoplight. I guess you could say I like it just fine here.
