Get off my lawn.
264Magnum (Kyle) is trying to find a home for a sweet looking border collie mix. There is a thread about it on OK Firearms. I'd take it but we don't have the room.

Edit: it is linked above. Sweet looking dog and Ausies make great country dogs.

Thanks for all the information. We are not ready for a dog yet as we still have to sell our house and move. It has been a fun exercise for my kids and I to talk about what kind of dog we'll get. Our oldest is not too keen on change and was a little upset with me for putting the house up for sale. Since I told her we would get a dog when we move though, she has been doing everything she can to keep things put away and the house looking good so it will sell as quickly as possible. We're definitely going to give German Shepherds consideration as a result of this thread. Thanks again for all of those who sent pm's looking to help out.

We looked in the paper and found our dog for free. Best dog i have ever had he is just a mutt, we looked @ him and he was scared and skinny we couldn't leave him if we tried. im glad we took him. Our other dog we got for free is very loyal as will. my brother is a fedex guy and picked her up from an older lady who wasnt doing very well and gave her to him Its like they know we saved them. I think the best ones a rescues.

Blue Heelers are wonderful country dogs.

I never get too stuck on purebreds either, I have had some fantastic mutts!

THIS! Blue Heeler or queensland heeler(sp?) and Australian Shepard. Absolutely the best damn dogs in the world. Especially for your application. As long as they have room to run and the kids play with them you've got a friend/guardian for life.

As soon as we get moved to our acreage we are getting a mix and a Rottweiler(FEMALE) as well. They are truly gentle giants, but you said you were trying to stay medium sized.

Honestly! How can you say no to that face?!?!

As a last plug on the German Shepard....
This is the female "Sable"

And this is the male "Rocky" when we first brought him home.
Both are excellent dogs as far as obedient, smart, non districting and simply they want to do for their master.

After having had Akita, Siberian Husky, and Shepherd mixes, I can tell you that I'm now absolutely a fan of short-haired breeds without undercoats - Boxers, Viszlas, Weimereiner, Greyhound, Belgian Malinois, etc. Labs are always good, too (if from proper breeding).
