Hey Guys,

I have started looking for a WWII era P.38 pistol. I am wanting an all matching pistol but don't know anyone that I can talk to to learn what to look for. I have bought the books and joined the Walther forum and have started getting an idea but nothing substitutes talking to someone that is knowledgeable and knows what to look for.

Does anyone know anyone on the forum that might take a minute and answer a couple of questions by phone. I have been watching P.38's on GB but it's hard to know all of the questions to ask.

Also, has anyone seen any around the Tulsa area that I could go look at. I figured I would have to wait for the Wanamaker Gun Show to really see any.

Thanks for any help.

1. Is it a Russian capture, very little collectors value.
2. Does it have import marks, very little collectors value.
3. For it to be a true Walther made gun it will be marked with "ac"
4. Is it an "HP"(Heers Pistole)
5. Are all parts matching(Major parts i.e. frame, barrel, locking lug, slide, an grips may have matching numbers)
6. BE VERY CAREFUL OF FAKES!!!!!!!!!!!

IF your just looking for a shooter, stick with the "Post War" P38/P1 pistols. Preferably a later model with the steel crosspin in the frame, an fat slide.

+ this! they will hold up better to todays hotter ammo too and are about 1/2 the price. I've got both types and only shoot the p1's

If you make it to OKC Big Boys Guns and Ammo has about 20 or so P-38's in the case. They range from all different years, finish, conditions, etc. The owner bought a collection from a long time collector and is selling them.
