Are OC'ers getting more static from the general public, or those carrying concealed

Do you counter by telling them that 'the element of surprise' is not a defensive tactic?

No, but it is OPSEC. :)

The element of surprise is offensive in nature by its very definition. I don't OC because I like to practice OPSEC both on and off duty. However, I fully support the right of those that OC and I see no reason as a permit holder or "gun guy" to cast aspersions on those who do it. To each their own and rock on! :mosh:

I've been carrying openly and concealed simultaneously since November 1st at 12:01AM and concealed since long before we were granted permission back in the '90's. So far, I have experienced absolutely ZERO static from anyone I see in public, with the exception of a few other CC'ers who see fit to step up and council me on the many tactical disadvantages of OC, ask me what I'm trying to prove or question the size of my personal parts.

My personal decision to carry openly is driven more by political reasons than a fear of becoming the victim of a bad guy. Maybe I'm the exception to the rule, but I've never been the victim of a violent crime and I don't walk in fear of being attacked. I am more worried about tyranny and when I try my best to courteously explain that to the CC'er who approaches me on the street with the aforementioned remarks, it's not long before I get a tin-foil hat response.

Have any others who have chosen to OC noticed that carrying openly gets more negative response from other CC'ers, than those who don't carry anything at all?

I have had the same thing happen to me. I carry open and CC with with the same RC holster for a full size M&P. Personally, I could do without the lectures from random CCers in public. It is difficult to bite my tongue, but I just smiled and thanked him for his advice and made my way back to my vehicle. Most of the time I OC is when I have taken off my jacket and need to run inside the gas station for something, and when I do my situational awareness is at its highest level for the obvious reason that I am carrying an exposed weapon.

Do I prefer CC? Yes. I just like having options available to me.

I was in danger of committing the unthinkable on or about 30 October this year. While entering Ron's on Denver I observed several open carriers sitting at a table. Oh the horror, I was about to inform them they needed to wait a couple of days before appearing in public OCing. As I approached that table one of the gentlemen stood up and his badge became visible from under his belly. Forthwith, my council I keep.

I have seen several people OC. We have only had one person who made it a point to make sure everyone seen his gun. He was the type of doofus that give the rest a bad name. I still CC, but have no problem with the OC crowd.

Man my wife is going to be pissed at you when I tell her that you are making me buy matching Milt Sparks Summer Special IIs to match my belts and shoes!

While it's apparent that I'm not a fan of OC, but if I ever chose to do so... I'll pair a belt/shoe/holster combo that screams "Bi+ch I'm fabulous!"
