From all the old pros around here, going to build a 10/22, planning on staying with the stock receiver, for now stock trigger (the replacement timney's are 200 bucks!), just going to change stock, mag release, barrel. Any thoughts or ideas from anyone that has built one before? Undecided on scope, but pretty decided on barrel stock and mag release.

Is there anywhere to buy a stock receiver (or am I going to have to bite the bullet and buy a gun just for stock and trigger assembly)?

Thanks for any input.

Don't waste your time on a Timney. While they make my preferred center fire triggers, their 10/22 trigger is junk. Hard lesson to learn. Kidd makes the absolute best, and a drop in will run you $105

You can buy a stand alone receiver from Kidd, TacSol, and probably a few others out there. But you'll pay more for one of those than you would a Walmart basic Ruger carbine.

Do barrel and stock research. They're not created equal. My $90 green mountain shot miles better than both TacSol $260 carbon fiber barrels I had. Stocks are the same way, just because it costs more doesn't mean it's higher quality/better.

Build exactly what you want without settling, even if you have to build it slow due to funds.

Finally, don't feel bad if you hit the $1k mark on a 10-22... Some of us do that quite frequently

Thats what I was afraid of...just seems silly (and paintful) to hit $1k on a 10-22 but I have found quickly how easy it is to get there in my research... Thanks.

This is great advice. I have tried alot of things over the years and like he said, more money does not always mean it is better.
I have a adjustable Volquartsen trigger in my old shooter. I love it.

I wish I hadn't sold my last 10/22 build, it was well over 1k but the groups were A M A Z I N G out of a semi 22lr. Worth every nickel I had in it

I should have thrown Volq in there. I've shot them, and liked them, but Kidd has been a go-to for me personally. Can't go wrong with either.

I went the KIDD route with the trigger and 16" barrel, Force Productions charging handle, and Tactical Solutions mag release. I'm very impressed with the KIDD trigger, it pulled 1.24lbs straight out of the box with no tweeking
