We just watched Carol Burnett receive the Mark Twain award and I have to wonder, are there any modern comics that can be that funny without every other word being a cuss word?

Fixed it for ya...

That said: Bill Cosby is much funnier IMO than Carol and to the best of my knowledge has never uttered nor resorted to using profane language in his comedy.

They're around. Sinbad for sure, Tim Allen, Ellen DeGeneres, etc. Hard to beat the Carol Bernett Show and I Love Lucy though.

Comedy evolves, just like everything else. It's hard to compare one generation of funnymen (funnywomen?) to another.

Charlie Chaplan was funny for his generation
Three stooges were funny for their generation

While they are entertaining now (I know, some will disagree) - those shows, put on today, would not be met with roaring applause and laughter. Nothing wrong them, and they can be appreciated with great respect and admiration. They have a place in the history of comedy, just like Benny Hill and the cast of "are you being Served?" - great funny stuff.

That's why so many rebooted shows don't make it. Same can be said for sitcoms, spin-offs and dramas. Look at what happened to Dallas when it was rebooted - show augured in the ground as fast as a show possibly could. BAM! Or that god-awful remake of Knight Rider :screwy:

Let's see: In 2011, TNT ordered 10 episodes based on the pilot. At the end of that season, TNT ordered 15 episodes for 2013. And in April, TNT ordered 15 more seasons. I'd hardly call that augering in. And that after the death of one of the stars. It wasn't a reboot either, but a continuation of the story, 20 years later.

That was just my humble opinion, shared and agreed upon by the misses. So, take it for what it's worth.

Then again, I liked the Firefly series which was cancelled egregiously early. but thats me. :homer:
