Well must have been 2000 of them flocking and eating the fields..
I could not resist a few days ago to just blast a few.

I got 16 with 7 rounds..gave 2 to a hawk that was spotted while i was picking up birds.
The young hawk flew down to get one that was bouncing off..then he seen me and went up in a tree leaving the bouncer ..
I got the bouncer and tossed it towards the hawk..as he was only 30 feet from me...Told him take some.

As i was walking off he did a swoop down to get the sucker..
I cleaned what i took, 14 of them.
Washed well in salt water as i was trying to remove all the blood i could.
Made an iron skillet of full of tatters and onions and seasoned the sliced breasts with black pepper and creole seasoning and garlic powder..

When potatoes got a little soft i placed the meat on top of it all and turned the heat way down and covered with foil.

Cooked for 12 or so minutes and then mixed well and cooked another 4 or so...

Keep them from cooking too fast as they are a bit tough...
Pretty tasty! :)

I used to kill them like that over the peanut fields in S. Central GA where my father in law farmed. I would just strip the breast out of the birds and put them in a bowl. Washed in salt water and left soaking in more salt water. He ate them fried. Very dark meat.

Similar to dove maybe? I love that dark meat with some drippings gravy to go with it. I don't know why starling or even pigeon would be any different.

I'll stick with pheasant an quail. I have an imagine of any black bird, crow, starling, grackle all tasting
more like eating probably what a skunk would taste like. No matter the amount of flavoring and spices
I can't get over the fact it's a black bird. I do however give you props for trying it and appreciate the fact
some people will try anything once. Maybe in the apocalypse..... Then again??

The darkest nastiest birds i ever ate were water turkey and a red headed wood pecker.
I know I know..i did not shoot the red head...an ex hunting friend did it...
I told him those are not for shooting and made him go get it and we cooked it and ate it..
Black meat...tasted like rotten liver.

Most of them little birds taste the same..i have eaten many kinds..

Dove, Pigeon. all the same. only difference is where the live and what they eat.

Dove is our fave. we love to bust them out of the freezer in Feb as a reminder of why we keep hunting them.

good stuff! And the kids like to clean them. fine with me
