.22lr @ Academy? What gives?

went in to academy the other day, and didn't even see a spot for .22lr. Asked the girl where they keep it and she said "We're out. You can try back tomorrow, but you'll have to get here early, all the crazies show up at 0800 and buy it all".

What's the deal with .22lr? Why are there gobs of 5.56, 7.62x39, and 9mm on the shelves, but no .22lr?

My theory is there are a bunch of retirees who show up to buy it all, hoping to strike it rich selling it in the next scare.

There are more 22s in homes than all other calibers. Its not reloadable and the scare is self perpetuating.

I don't get it either. I haven't seen anyone paying inflated prices for it. My guess.......hoarders.

Last time I was at the Edmond Academy, they had .22lr behind the gun counter. 50rd boxes of Federal @ a 2 box limit. Everything else was back on the shelves with no limit.

Its still going for $50 a box of 550 federal on Gunbroker. Sometimes more.

The last time that I was in Dong's a guy asked about 22LR they showed him a box from behind the counter over $19 for a box of 50.

Gander Mountain down in Sherman, TX, had plenty of 50 round boxes of some normal CCI ammo going for $5 a box with no limit.

last time I went to Academy early for 22lr, there was someone from Dongs outside waiting and offering to buy all he could get for twice (or more) the price to anyone who would buy some for him.
and they sell it for $19, well there you go now you know why you can't get any.
