I joined the retirement club for the first time in 2004. However retirement for a 21 year enlisted guy in the Air Force isn't even close to enough to quit working.

Now 10 years into my second career I'm looking good. Pinching pennies and putting as much as I can away. Maybe 10 more years and I'll retire for the second time.

I retired from the US Navy Seabees in Feb 98' with 21 plus years of service. Went into computer networking and then on to AT&T and cell phones, PDAs and smartphones. Retired for real in July 2010. It was great, even fun until the wife retired last August 2013, now there is a chore list, a honey-do list and bunch of scheduled home improvement projects. Grrr.. Women hate to see a man taking a nap.

You know, that last comment really piques me to make a comment relating to Lurker66, but I better be nice. I don't know USN-SCW-Ret all that well, and he might not appreciate it too much.

My wife reminded me that I am 57 years old now and I love work, I can sit and watch it for hours.
Cancer forced me to retire back in October, They said from 1 to 3 months and I would be gone so why keep taking in work that can take 1 to 3 months to complete?
I finished all the guns I had in the shop, then I finished all the guns I own and have wanted to do something to for years.....YEA!
I am still good for 3 or 4 hours a day so have been doing things like reloading, yard work, weighing down the sofa to keep it from running away like this post.

Aug 12 ,2015, I'll be 55 and will have 32 yrs of Civil Service, then in Dec 2015 I'm pulling chocks on the Air Guard side with 37yrs military time. Can't wait to not drive I-40 every morning to OKC from Tecumseh. First thing I'm going to do is a 3 1/2 12ga. Dead Coyote shell to my alarm clock that has served so well, and then not shave every day for the rest of my life. Do have plans on doing some HAZMAT class instructing, but not a lot of it.

My last day, after 41.5 yrs with the Feds, was Aug 31, '13. It was time to go. Now I keep active with some volunteer work, and have some home and yard projects to accomplish. I think the Red Tailed hawk outside of my window is a male and appears to be asleep; been up in the tree for some 45 minutes. Need to wash the downstairs windows on the nest warmish day. Life is good.

I'm 45, retired from active duty 6 years ago, and will probably be working for another 15 years at least. Still have little ones to raise, feed, clothe and house. Then I'll punch out and let me wife support me.
