Some interesting insights can be found in this study. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2014/06/keep_guns_off_campus_say_colle.html

CLEVELAND, Ohio - An overwhelming majority of college presidents want to keep their campuses gun free, according to a new study.

"Currently available data indicates that college campuses are one of the safest places in communities for college-age students, and college leaders want to keep it that way," study co-author Jagdish Khubchandani, a member of Ball State University's Global Health Institute, said in a press release. The research team included faculty from Ball State and the University of Toledo.

About 95 percent of 401 college executives surveyed opposed allowing concealed handguns on campus and about 91 percent cited accidental shootings of fellow students as the greatest disadvantage of allowing concealed weapons, according to "University Presidents' Perceptions and Practice Regarding the Carrying of Concealed Handguns on College Campuses."
Now... how many accidental shootings are there on Utah campuses?

Feelings:
About 98 percent of the presidents thought students and faculty felt safe on their campuses. Additionally, 92 percent said most faculty and students would feel unsafe if faculty, students and visitors carried concealed handguns.

Researchers said 79 percent of those [college presidents] surveyed did not own a firearm while 57 percent grew up in a home without a gun. About 5 percent of presidents had a valid permit to carry a concealed handgun.

So 95% percent of college presidents oppose allowing concealed carry on college campuses and 5% have a concealed carry permit themselves. Hmmmm.

Perhaps attitudes are changing?
In 2013, at least 19 states introduced legislation to allow concealed carry on campuses in some regard, the conference said. Two bills passed, one in Kansas that allows concealed carry generally and one in Arkansas that allows faculty to carry. But the legislation allows college governing boards to pass measures banning guns on campus.

Take away lessons:

College Presidents (presumably educated people, themselves) overwhelmingly believe that if you feel something, then it must be true.

Research that is held out to represent the stances of US college executives the nation over should be done by as few as, and the most obscure institutions of higher learning as is humanly possible.

381 college executives (again: presumed to be educated people) are morons.

Reasons College Presidents Oppose Concealed Carry:

1) Most College Presidents are either liberal/progressive or know that their jobs/careers are controlled by people who are.

2) Liberals/Progressives are anti-gun and anti-armed citizen.

End of list....

When I was at NEO in Miami, OK in the late '70's we had enough guns in our dorm to start a small war - and the administration knew we had them. Remember, this was when the Iranian students were throwing s**t-fits on American college campuses. We had our run-ins with them but we never resorted to firearms (that may have been because they knew we had guns, too).

I was at NEO in the early '70s; had my 22 in my dorm room. Never thought about it twice, neither did anyone else.

Same thing held true for Murray State College when I attended at about the same time.
On top of that, MSC has a gunsmithing school, and sits in the middle of all kinds of game reserves.

Countless firearms and ammo were stored in our dorm rooms, as it was more secure than sitting in our vehicles.

Academic leaders should never allow evidence to get in the way of how they feel.

So they've been pushing this (erroneous) stat that one in four college women will be a victim of rape or sexual assault, which is a much higher rate than the rest of society, but they don't want students to exercise their God given rights because colleges are "one of the safest places for college age students." It is a conflicting narrative, you can't have your cake and eat it too.
