Vortex for the long haul - gives you the best CS, and one of the best overall pkgs for $ spent.

Granted the other companies are doing their best to retain their loyal base by improving CS and offering a wider array of models to target the ar crowd……….

The Vortex PST is good glass, but no better than Burris' 1-4xs from what I've seen. It might come down to what reticle you prefer. Personally, I like a BDC type reticle because it matches the surplus ammo I use very well, and is very fast with little thinking involved for hold-overs. I also like capped turrets, so they won't get turned while moving through brush and whatnot. If I was shooting handloads that didn't match the BDC, and/or shooting a rifle that is intended for more precision type shooting, I might prefer just a plain mil or MOA line reticle like the Vortex has, and memorize hold-overs for various distances.

From what I've been reading on the interwebs, the glass in the Vortex Viper PST and the Burris TAC30 is pretty much the same, it just comes down to reticle preference and the $$$ difference for that reticle.

Yep, and the Vortex has target turrets as an option as well as capped. The TAC30 has no power ring... you turn the whole ocular housing to adjust power... and push-button illumination instead of a diopter. Cost-saving measures I'm sure. The MTAC is the same thing but with a power ring and diopter, for a bit more.
