I appreciate the feedback.
She would have some purple furniture, not pink. WOO-HOO!
I know very little about Bear Creek, but the price looks pretty good. Much better than the M&P, or pretty much a wash?
Those BCM uppers look a bit pricey for me, all I was seeing was in the $700 range unless I missed something.
The Bushmaster is a good price, well known mfg, what is it about a carbon gun that is less reliable?

Thanks!

The M&P15 Sport is a great buy for the money. The lack of a dust cover or forward assist isn't an issue at all, I suspect most shooters never use them anyway. A couple months ago you could have scored a Colt in your price range but the prices are slowly returning to normal. The BCM rifles are well made as are modern Bushmaster's and Stags. I always recommend the M&P15 Sport to people in your situation because we have an M&P15 Tactical that is one really impressive shooters. It has a lot more upgrades than the Sport but underneath they are the same basic rifle.

If she has a favorite color you may be able to find furniture and parts to customize it to her preferences. I have a few AR's that have pink furniture and/or accessories myself.

I have a M&P Sport and it is a great rifle. I personally dont see the need for forward assist or the dust cover for what I use mine for, which is range time and some hunting. I use the factory iron sights the rifle came with and it shoots dead on every time, I dont plan on adding a scope or any other unneeded items. I prefer to keep it simple and let it do it's job, only thing I added was a sling for when I take it hunting.

Bear Creek? Ugh. Those are right at the bottom of the barrel quality-wise. I was new to this stuff once too, and I understand the impulse to buy the one with the lowest price tag you can find, but give some thought to what kind of quality you are getting for the money.

Another thing to keep in mind is that most of the ladies I know like light weight rifles. The M&P Sport has a pretty heavy profile barrel that makes it a bit front heavy.

Here is what I would get if I was wanting a rifle for a lady (or hell, for myself even) and didn't want to build: http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/colt-ar-15-5-56nato-16-carbine-pencil-barrel.html yeah it costs 2 or 3 hundred more than one of the bottom of the barrel ones, but it is a top quality, highly dependable rifle from one of the top names in ARs, and should give you many thousands of rounds of trouble free use. It would be suitable for serious use as well as casual. I guarantee you will never regret spending the extra couple hundred for a quality firearm. That is actually a screaming-ass deal on a Colt... The kind of deal people will be kicking themselves in the nuts for passing up here in 2 or 3 years.

Whats wrong with pink? Built this for my wife and she loves it, it's hers no doubt. Just waiting for a 1-4 scope and will try to talk her into shooting the run and gun rather than running it with me.

If she wants a color get the woman a color, new shooters need some novelty.

I agree with all the comments regarding the M&P sport. I use mine for hunting coyotes. I could not be more pleased with the accuracy, reliability, and price. Mine sits on the front of a 4 wheeler many weekends. It is usually covered with road dust. I rarely clean it and I have never had a FTE or FTF. I know there are a lot good options out there, but I have not heard of anyone that has shot an M&P sport was not a satisfied.

Good luck,

PS I would not worry much about the color. I am thrilled to see more wives, daughters and girlfriends interested in shooting sports. If it takes pink accessories to get them interested...no problem.

That looks great! I have that same furniture waiting to go on a lightweight "for fun" AR in the future. I wish I could afford that Colt that was linked a few posts up, it would be perfect with the pink Magpul furniture.

Not all women like pink guns, some like blue or purple or Muddy Girl camo or black...whatever gets her in the sport is all that matters.

agree 100%. If my wife wanted a pink gun, i'd get it for her. I like PSA and have no probs with them. M&P are GTG also.

I bought the wife a M&P15 MOE for her Christmas present and gave it to her early. Has the MagPul fancy furniture. Figured I'd better get her a nice rifle. She's a budding gun nut. Wanted to impress her....which it did.
Can't go wrong with the Smith.
