I was recently gifted what I believe is a bubba'd Czech Vz.24 (my first mauser) and am looking to correct it a bit.
It's in what I believe to be a cut down k98 stock because of the large butt plate and the barrel band, but I'm not a mauser specialist. No handguard.
The rifle was scrubbed of any crest and most markings, but there are a few left.
The left side of the action reads "CESKOSLOVENSKA ZBROJOVKA, A.S., BRNO" (no VZ24).
The serial is 4 digits, 57XX. It appears on the left side of the chamber, no prefix, and on the turned down bolt handle.
The only other markings are a crest on the left side of the barrel under the wood line (I think it reads "dot / 18"), and the numbers 45 and 10 on the left side of the barrel. Along with what looks like a couple proof marks.
The barrel looks good, rifling is strong with very little to no frost in the grooves.

The main questions I have are :
1. Is this 8MM or 7MM? the magazine is roughly 3 1/2" long and 1" at the widest in the rear if that helps.
2. Any idea of year of manufacture?
3. Does the trigger guard and magazine floor plate look correct? It doesn't look right to me. If not correct, I'd like to find the right one.
4. Front sight correct? It's a fat triangle blade with the number 7 on it.
5. do I need to find a vz24 stock, or will a different type of mauser stock work?

Any help is appreciated! Also, any vendors you know of that might have what I'm looking for.
I've included a link to a small album for reference.
Thanks.

the good fellas over at ar15.com helped me out with this one.
Looks like it's a late or post-war 98k made in the dot factory in CZ.
I'm going to get it back to looking like this one (from an ar15.com user).

Wish I could help, but I have practically no knowledge about these rifles. Have you tried the gunboards forum?

thanks, I think I got it sorted out with the help of another forum.

We identified it as a late or post-war Czech 98k. Not the Vz 24 I originally thought it was. The barrel has the "dot" shield and "45", a Czech lion proof, and what I believe is the remnants of a Waffenamt eagle, as well. My receiver ring has the same serial number location, suffix, and Czech lion stamps as this one :

and the rear sight base is a 98k, not an earlier Vz 24. I'm not sure if the receiver ring was ever stamped with a crest, but mine has a deep tooling line across it just like the one above.

Looks like my gun was either a very late war or post war build (probably post war). Receiver and bolt serials match, so that's a plus. This would've been the original configuration :

My cut down stock matches that one perfectly. With the parts I've ordered, I'm going to build it to look like this one :

a late war 98k that sold at RIA auctions recently.

The Czech lion stamps and "winter" trigger guard identify it as a post-war assembled rifle. Quality of these was generally high, and its not unusual to find a mix of Czech and WWII German parts.
Good luck with the rebuild.

thanks. I've already got the stock and am working on bringing it back to life. it was super caked with cosmo. other parts should be here by middle of next week. I'll post some pics when it's finished.

btw, what length cleaning rod should I be looking for? I've seen 10/12/14 inches. the stock is a laminate war production Yugo post war refurb from JG Sales : http://www.jgsales.com/military-surplus-german-k98-mauser-stock-wwii-production,-yugo-refurbished-post-war,-complete-with-metal.-p-70207.html

There was some overlap in the changes, but for the most part flat buttplate K98 stocks take short cleaning rods, and stocks with wrap-around buttstocks take the longer rods.

I received my late war stamped trigger guard and need some info on what I need to get to complete it.
I'm assuming a stamped floorplate, floorplate catch, and floorplate catch spring?

Also, I measured the cleaning rod cavity at 12" just to below the front site base. I'm assuming 12" is what I need?

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.
