Can I save money on oatmeal by buying "cattle feed"? (no joke)

I watched a documentary, and in it they showed a long line of semitrucks unloading oats from harvest into the oatmeal manufacturer's grain silos, to be turned into oatmeal. It was mentioned that when the grain silos were full, the remaining trucks would be turned away, and would then sell their oats (at a reduced price) as cattle feed.

Off-brand oatmeal is around a dollar a pound... but I can buy "rolled oats" from tractor supply for about a third of that...

So farmers, tell me.... am I paying a premium by buying my oatmeal at the grocery store? Should I do my breakfast shopping at the feed store instead? :)

Of course feed oats will be cheaper than oat meal in the grocery store. The oat meal in a grocery store has higher standards of cleanliness. It has also been through more processing to be in the flake like consistency that oat meal has. The smaller units of packaging also adds expenses.

I have eaten sweet feed and I swear I have eaten cereal bars that taste exactly the same.. well some cereal bars taste terrible and sweet feed is better.
Research bugs in oatmeal.. I see no reason why the feed store food would be any different except for maybe hulls.

Get some and see.
Video... bugs in quaker oats.. as we know larva will hatch.

Oats come with the hulls on, so make sure they are rolled, so the husk is gone.
I would think it would be hard to remove them your self.

We feed race oats, they have the husk, but the horses love it. Even the chickens eat it.

Even if you buy rolled oats the hulls are still going to be a big problem..Big difference in what I fix for breakfast and what I use to feed my jumping mules..
