I watched a documentary, and in it they showed a long line of semitrucks unloading oats from harvest into the oatmeal manufacturer's grain silos, to be turned into oatmeal. It was mentioned that when the grain silos were full, the remaining trucks would be turned away, and would then sell their oats (at a reduced price) as cattle feed.
Off-brand oatmeal is around a dollar a pound... but I can buy "rolled oats" from tractor supply for about a third of that...
So farmers, tell me.... am I paying a premium by buying my oatmeal at the grocery store? Should I do my breakfast shopping at the feed store instead?
