I'll start with one example:
1. S&W doesn't seem to want parts lists or schematics published for their M&P pistols, in particular. It appears they want you to send the gun back to them for maintenance and repairs. For example, I wanted to replace the front sight on my M&P .22 Compact; I sent S&W customer service an email asking for the part and got a reply back a couple of days later that said that was a factory job and to send the gun in. (Yeah, right). I then called them TWICE about it and finally got a guy who said he would "try to send me the part". Well, it did arrive about a week later and I put it in. What's up with that?

Ive had the complete OPPOSITE experience with S&W on multiple occasions. First thing I do when I buy a gun is take it apart down to the springs. I just like to know how they work. My 4 year old son was watching me and was just fascinated. He walked off with a tiny spring that puts tension the on the slide release. Called SW and they sent the part to me for free.

I put the APEX trigger parts in my carry m&P 9. I decided to order extra springs and a couple of trigger bars to mess around with. I did not get those for free, but I had no trouble ordering from SW.

When they changed the twist rate in the 9mm barrels to 1/10, I called SW to order one since the older, slower, twist barrels did not shoot 147g bullets very well. I had no issues getting one from SW.

I love my M&P pistols. m&p 9 full size, M&p 9 compact, M&P 9 shield.

Lucky you. I really like my M&P .22 compact, but just try to find an exploded view or a parts list for it.

I had both for a while. The S&W felt comfortable in my hands and I never had any malfunctions with it. The things I didn't like was that I couldn't work on it like I can a Glock. No problem with availability of parts.

I would have to vote for Glock. I just received a new Gen 3 frame for my Gen 2 pistol that was damaged. It cost me 100.00 plus tax, cheap enough. Before I put the slide on I replaced the connector with a 3.5 and a smooth trigger so it is good to go. Really can't beat how easy the Glocks are to work on.

I don't have much experience with M&P, so I am not bashing them. If I spent time with them I am sure I would probably like them. I have owned and do own other brands such as sig, colt, walther, and ruger. The reason I personally like Glock is they adhere to the KISS (Keep It Stupid Simple) principle. Because they adhere to this principle they have a smooth no snag frame which makes it easy to holster and conceal; they are unbelievably reliable, simple to understand and operate (point and squeeze); they have industry leading mag capacity (it amazes me that it has taken others so long to catch up in this area, and many are still a round or more short); they have a simple non-glare finish; they are affordable; parts and glock know-how is everywhere (how to videos abound); they are durable (nearly indestructible; spare mags are available up to 33rds and cheap (the other brands i mentioned have more expensive mags); they are lightweight but strong. In my opinion they are the AR of handguns.

Some say they are the AK of handguns... ;)

I have had a couple of Glocks over the years...and once I start working again (been in school full time for the past couple of years) I plan to acquire a few more for keeps...mainly because of the simplicity/reliability/availability factor. I don't know (and doubt) that a Glock will ever be my favorite handgun, but much like Japanese cars...one simply cannot deny that they are worth having in the stable... :D

All that said...for a small CCP...I do love my M&P9...

Called Smith up after getting my m&p 40c an asked about a grip extension for the 15rd mags. They said the would just send me one.

Got a finger rest mag bottom.... but it was free.

I bought a g21, worst thing I guess was it wasn't a 1911... and the mags were really heavy.
Got to shoot a race gun at the range with one of those light triggers setups, creepy ... that blew my plans away for my g21...

I have to say that I have shot Glock my entire LE career, just recently purchased an M&P Shield for backup gun. I have never liked the compact Glocks at all. I took it to the range yesterday and shot it for the first time and I was impressed by the Shield. It's going to take some getting use to the trigger, but over all I like it.
