Shark without a doubt. My wife bought one late summer and the thing is remarkable. Every time she uses it, multiple times a week, the collector is the proof in the pudding as it gets the job done FAR better than the old Panasonic. She likes its ease of moving under and around things too. She could do a commercial for the company as her response to it is, "best vacuum I have owned in my 64 yrs on this earth"
I have to agree. I vacuum every single day because I have ocd really bad and it picks up so much stuff. The suction power is amazing. And I love how I can take it outsid and us it to vacuum my car out as well. And cleaning the filter is about as easy as you can get. And the fact that it costs hundreds less than an overpriced dyson makes it even better of a vacuum.

We also bought a Shark last year. Have been very pleased at it's performance on both tile and carpet. Very worth the money. If you decide to go with a Shark, go to Bed Bath and Beyond's website, sign up for their emails and you'll get a 20% off coupon, which can be applied to the vacuum, bringing it cheaper than you can get it anywhere else.

Our custodians use Miele uprights; I don't know how well they clean, but they certainly seem to be durable enough.

I don't like Kirby sales tactics, but it's hard to beat their vacuums. I have an Oreck XL that works just fine for me, particularly given that I didn't pay anything for it and have only had to buy replacement belts and bags for it.

My folks had an old chrome dome Rainbow years ago. After I left home, we went through at
least a dozen different sweepers, including the Kirby.
The Kirby probably cleaned the best of any of them, but after borrowing my folks Rainbow when
I ran out of belts for the Kirby, after seeing the mud that came out of the Rainbow,
we went out and bought a Rainbow.

Long story short, we have had a rainbow for 15+ years, and will never go back to even a Kirby.
