Just make sure the timing belt is current. We have not owned a v6 but I believe they have a timing chain and don't need the regular interval changed. I'm prolly wrong but I'm sure someone will set me straight!

I would second all the above, including the Camry statement. We were looking at this same kind of situation for my niece who is in college, drives an hour each way each day... we ended up with a '99 Camry, we keep it very well-maintained, and it's been a great choice.

98-02 Accords 4 cyl and v6 have transmission problems, the 4 cyl blows head gaskets every now and then. The newer(03-07) V6 accord have transmission problems and power steering problems. Camrys are good to go. Altimas have trouble with their catalytic converters and the 2.5 goes bad and is expensive to replace. Get a 97-01 Camry or 03-07 4 cyl Accord.
dlbleak- V6 Accord is a belt, 4 cylinder is a belt until 03, when it changes from a 2.3 to a 2.4.

I had a 2001 Accord V6. I put over 230,000 miles on it. Most reliable vehicle I ever owned...never had to replace anything other than routine maintenance items (including timing belt every 100,000 miles). I imagine I'd still be driving it if my girlfriend hadn't totaled it.

We are on number 12, 13, and 14 Honda now. 3 of them were sold after 100k, the rest were 200 to 300k when sold.
I have never had anything major on any of them. Knock on wood. The manual transmissions will last for ever.
Clutch will last over 200k driving to Tinker each day. If the auto transmission fluid is changed when the book
calls for it, they will last 250+ with a 4 cyl. Without fluid changes, you can have problems. Same with antifreeze.

My wife and I owned a couple of different Accords and Civics. They never needed anything done to them. My wife currently has a '12 Camry and we'll probably trade it in on a new Accord this summer. The Camry is dependable, but the Accord is just nicer.

I'm looking at a couple Honda Accords for daily/work fuel savings. One is a 99' LX and the other is a 00' EX, does anyone have any experience with these cars? Good or bad?
My dad had a 91 Honda that he drove from Shawnee to Dayton tire on council road almost every day he went to work. It had over 330,000 miles and still ran great when he sold it. The engine and transmission were never touched. My sister currently has a '01 accord lx and it has over 200,000 on it and is still going strong. Of course Honda had some bad apples but most of their cars are excellent. Why do you think their resale value is so high?

I have owned an 89' and 92' Accords, but that was years ago. They were both great cars, I think I changed the motor mounts in the 92' but besides that I sold the 89' with about 230k miles and the 92' had under 200k. I have read about the transmission problems on the 2000 ish Accords, so I'm kinda concerned about that possible added expense. I wasn't aware of the Altima motors going bad, haven't read anything about that so far.
