I enjoyed the "Uplift" books by David Brin. They deal with mankind discovering how we became sentient creatures, and then in turn learning to "uplift" other species to sentience (chimps, dolphins, etc...).

I also liked the "Hyperion" books by Dan Simmons.

None of it is hardcore sci-fi by any means, but still, to me anyway, enjoyable reading.

Excellent choices you all have!

Ironically, I just finished binge watching "The Shannara Chronicles" based upon the series of books from Terry Brooks. Although it didn't do the books justice (as usual with most adaptations), I still felt it was an excellent show.

The Shannara series of books are great.
I also recommend Dragon Riders of Pern.

Those are more fantasy than SciFi, but great books.

Deathworld is another great one, and of course, I-Robot.
