Its got a VIN and date of manufacture, and the original owner is willing to do bill of sale or whatever we need...just wasnt sure what exactly it was.
I'll go to the TAG agency with him next week and see if we can get a title for it.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the OP but years ago I built a teardrop trailer and had to get it tagged. In the process they said it had to have a serial number so I took it home and got out the stencil stamp and put some numbers on the trailer tongue and they tagged the thing.

In 2012 I bought a used trailer built before the requirement for a serial number. I made up a number and stamped the trailer and used it and a bill of sale to get a title. New trailers are required to be serial numbered by the manufacturer and the manufacturer must issue a certificate of origin to get a title. If the title or certificate of origin are used to obtain a title, the title or certificate must have the notarized signature of the seller. This is for private party sales, sales by a dealer may be different. I believe a dealer must issue a title if it is a used trailer. A new trailer has to have the certificate of origin.

This is supposed to deter theft.
