I've tried craigslist once to sell a boat. All I got was lowballers, but no scammers.
I absolutely hate selling things. If I knew somebody locally that did that, I'd pay them a 10% premium to take care of it for me and wade through all the BS involved.

No phone number, it's a scam in my book unless reason is given. What is a dead give away is when something is w...a...y below average cost, an example is a Pleasure Way RV van for $18,000 when they are selling for over $50,000.

I also see those low prices but if I'm interested in the item I'll copy the heading on the ad and search Google. More often than not the same ad will come up on CL in another state far away so that's a dead give away that it's a scam.
Something I'm not sure about what I see more than a few Harley ads is it will have a price like $2500 on a 3 or 4 yr old bike. Are Harley sellers listing the price as pay me that amount and take over payments?

I just bought a metal lathe off CraigsList from someone in Bartlesville totally via email. I actually prefer email because I'm old, can't hear and have trouble understanding what the other person on the phone is saying. With emails both parties have a record of who said what and it eliminates phone tag. Guess texting will do the same but then you have to deal with typing on a durn phone.

Yep stick4, I forgot about that-same add in several states-a scam taking place that I don't want to be anywhere near.

I shop it all the time. Don't buy much right now, but you learn to spot scams fast. For cars and motorcycles they will futz with the pictues because they usually are ripped from another ad somewhere else. They'll be fuzzy or distorted. The prices will be way low and wonky sometimes, like $2113 or some ridiculous number. A lot of times they'll list an email in the ad - frequently in the pictures.

I bought a car off craigslist last winter, Feb 2016. The ad read well, as in it was sensible, contained a lot of detailed information, had multiple pictures, and had verifying info, like odo picture that matched the listings mileage. One thing we did - that both seller and buyer wanted - was meeting at his bank. He had a lien on the title, so we met at the bank, I gave the bank the payoff amount, received a lien release, gave the seller the remaining and got the title. He had verified funds and I had the title and lien release and keys when we parted. We also met in a public place for a test drive. I'm not giving or asking for someone's address for a test drive or to view an item on craigslist.
