Stolen gun recovered with missing frame serial number

I had a Glock stolen back in 2004 in OKC. Cops in Florida picked it up a few months back. OKC PD calls today saying that they have the gun but the serial number on the frame is missing (number on the slide is still there).

The detective I talked to didn't know if he could even release the gun to me with the missing serial number. So I'm guessing this isn't that common.

Anyone have any experience with a situation like this? If OKC PD releases it to me do you think Glock would/could fix it? I called Glock already and the shut their customer service down early today for what ever reason.

I'm just excited I might get it back and don't want to wait until Monday.

You would think the OKC PD would be smart enough to put in a call to the ATF to see whether they could return the gun to you or not or how to handle the situation.
I hope you do get your gun back, I had one stolen back in the early 80's and it turned up in Dallas at a pawn shop and had to go to court to get it back lucky for me they had 3 bomb threats that day and the last one the pawn owner didnt show so i ended up with the gun without having to pay for it again and this all happened 20 years after it was stolen.

I would not want to be in possession of a receiver with a missing/obliterated serial number. Slide S/N doesn't count for jack.

I would count it as a loss if i were you. Even if you could (legally) regain access to that glock, who knows what it has been used for in the mean time. perhaps crimes that have not been discovered.

Are you an NRA member? i think they cover gun theft up to a certain amount.

If the serial number has been obliterated, or even defaced, there ain't no way you're getting that weapon back.
The slide isn't the weapon, the frame is the weapon, according to ATF.

Glocks have the serial number engraved plate imbedded to the frame. An Easy fix for Glock. Whether or not they will remake a serial numbered plate is a different story. The OP will have to find out on Monday.

Pretty sure this isn't the first time Glock has had this issue come up either

Maybe I got a new detective and he doesn't know what's up.

I'm not an NRA member.

I would imagine Glock has seen this before so I should have an answer Monday.

Looks like the consensus here is that it's a goner.

The thought of it being used in other unknown crimes is interesting though.

The slide and barrel have the SN on them.
I would at least get those parts of the weapon, replace the frame with another one & let Okc PD destroy the frame.

Ask for the slide and barrel back and you can provide proof that serial number is yours. Then go buy a 80% glock lower or get a full lower http://www.glockstore.com/Parts-Accessories/Frames.

Glock can probably replace the frame. Either way, they should have the correct answer. Asking BATFE is like asking the IRS a tax question. You're as likely to get a wrong answer as you are a correct one.
