No luck this year for me on drawing the ledgendary MCAAP hunt but excited to try next year. Has anyone here ever been on this hunt? If so, can you tell me about your time there? How the hunt go, hunting tactic, camping, and just general experience at the AA plant.

I know it’s long bow or recurve only without sights and that makes it kind of exciting for me..getting within 30 yards, etc. I read, once drawn it’s a 13% chance to harvest a deer but when you get one they are absolute monsters and could easily go Pope & Young scored.

Anyway, if anyone has been would you mind sharing your experience there?!

I haven't been in a couple of years but it got to be a hassle and don't apply anymore.
I'm eligible for the disabled hunt which is the first of the season. Hotter than hell, and the regimen of convoys into and out of the hunt areas became tiresome.
They do have some monster deer on the place though.

7 times I got to hear one of the white hats screech out "Hooooooominy Drivers" lol. Never hunted Hominy though, only Boggy and Deer Creek. Flung lots of arrows, never connected. First trip was when I was 14y years old. Have hunted it when it was 95* and we were crying for Gold Bond, and been there when when it snowed on the Saturday evening of the hunt. Seen quite a few really nice ones, no giants except for in the Commanders yard just outside the hunting area lol. Haven't been there since Starry retired.

I have been a couple of times. Seen some nice deer. Had a super fat spike about 3 yards from me. while I was watching him, a monster came in on the same trail. And at the same time a hoard of angry mosquito's decided to feast on me. I tried to slowly brush them away. Then I heard a snort and looked to my left and saw the monster about 10 yards away. I about crapped myself! Never did get a shot at one though.

I was on Hominy, far east side on one of the food plots. Nothing in two days but does, so on the last evening, moved across the road to one of the ammo bunkers and just sat down behind one.
Great buck, in the 150 class walked around the edge of the mowed area browsing toward me. Dead calm so thought I might get a shot before dark. Right at 30 yards, felt a slight coolness on the back of my neck, and in seconds, the buck bolted. No shot.

I got draw a couple years ago for Hominy, early October. Shot a doe on my first morning at about 18 yards. She and four others snuck up on me along a creek bank in a light rain. Saw quite a few deer but no bigs ones. Went back the next year on the quality pass and shot another doe on the second morning. Hit her a little far back...spent the rest of the day looking for her with the help of my friends with no luck. Saw even more deer that year but still no big ones.

Lots of ticks and copperheads early season. I got draw for Deer Creek this year in November, so hopefully the bigs ones are out and about!

Well, that may be a bit optimistic. If I recall, the managed herd is a bit over 2000 deer, trying for half bucks, with around 100 oldsters with BIG racks.
Back when Starry was there, I did three annual hunts after I retired from USAF, shooting a doe on the last day each time. My preferred deer to eat is a dry doe, and I saw no point in shooting the medium buck that got close enough for a sure shot. I spent one afternoon watching what was probably P&Y buck near to a small hidden wheat field checking out the dozen or so does, but he never got closer to me than 60 yds.
My favorite year was hunting a bumper acorn crop in Hominy. Find the acorns, find the deer.
