There is a valid reason for the thread title. I own both of these except my Colt is in .32acp, so its an 1903. After looking over both guns I noticed that what SW did was to take the Colt and create a updated version of the 1903. Both guns are similar in size, shoot the same cartridge, and both are concealed hammer guns with a grip safety along with a thumb safety. SW went a few steps farther by adding an ambi thumb safety that functions with the gun loaded or unloaded plus allowing the slide to be operated, forward partial slide serrations, adjustable high profile sights, standard magazine release( I'll say it here, its not a 1911 style but a Luger style, old George Luger created it first) unlike the heal type used on the 1903/08 pistol, frame is polymer unlike the steel frame of the original, and last but not least a takedown lever ala SIG/Saur. All this makes for an outstanding light weight carry gun. Even though its in what some concider a minimal chambering this little pistol will hold its own for self defense or the target range. I am one of those who never liked the MP series of pistol's, and felt great sorrow at the loss of SW's third gen. pistol's, but I am sold on this little blaster. I first bought one for my daughter to have as a carry gun. Once on the range after shooting more than 300rnd through her I'm hooked, and have now bought one for myself, and will be making this pistol part of my carry rotation. I'm one of those who always carry a BUG, and can think of the Ruger LCP-II as its perfect companion.
P.S. I almost forgot one other feature of this pistol next to its grandparents, it has a slidelock/release that its forebearers didn't have.
If you haven't checked one out I recommend you do, I think you'll greatly surprized!!!!!
