...I'm researching for a new camera. A friend at church had her Nikon D90 give out, so the wife talked me into giving her my Nikon D300. Then, the wife said she planned to buy me another full frame camera to replace the D300.

Thus, I'm looking at the Nikon Z7, which is a mirrorless camera, instead of getting another full DSLR camera.

Have any of you photographers had anything to do with the Nikon Z series cameras? If you have, or have extensively researched them, what are your thoughts?

Good camera but pretty expensive. What type of photography do you do and how often. I’m kind of a camera nerd. Sometimes my gear addiction is almost as bad as my firearm addiction.

no experience with that nikon, but love my fuji mirrorless. Aside from a few models, you just have to get used to having what you see by on an LCD display.

Biggest thing to keep in mind is that many companies (not sure if nikon is one) have new lens mounts for their mirrorless systems, so you might be stuck with either adaptors or new lenses.

If you've spent the money on good glass, you might as well stick with DSLR. That D500 is an amazing bit of kit even if it is crop sensor. If I weren't so deep in Canon glass, that's what I'd buy.

Look at my Smugmug site and you'll soon see my "type" of photography. Primarily landscape, wildlife, and just about anything else that tickles my fancy. I've got a LOT of pictures taken at the 45th Infantry Museum in Oklahoma City as well as other museums around.

Yes, Nikon is one with a new, larger mount called the Z-mount. With the F to Z adapter, I could use all the lenses I currently have for my DSLR cameras. However, checking on photos of the Nikon Z7 at Pbase dot com's "Cameras" link, one can see sample images taken by the Z7 with both DSLR lenses and "Z" lenses. All appear to be pretty good quality from what I can tell.

I've gotten rid of my last cropped sensor camera, that being a Nikon D300. I've now got two full-frame Nikons, the D700 and the D810.

Oh, and I've heard that cannons were primarily good for making a lot of noise and leaving rubble strung around.

As a follow up, I think I've decided to wait perhaps another year before going mirrorless, if I do at all. Nikon's mirrorless cameras still have some issues that just aren't really what appeal to me, so I will probably wait a year and see if they address those issues.

I have a D500 and a D7200: if I were looking at a new DSLR, I would look closely at the D850 for the sensor.

lol... Noise is an issue in low light for me (and everyone I suppose), but I like shooting landscapes. No problem there. With the pricey lenses, those were the game changers for the indoor concerts. Ended up paying for a couple of nice L series lenses through my work. Just had to fork over the cash for the initial buy.
