100% Copper Chore Boy on a bronze bore brush to get the big lead stuff out and the lead that does not want to be removed i use a mix of hydrogen peroxide and vinegar 50/50.
I leave it in the barrel for 3 minutes and then scrub and clean it out.
Lead will fall out in chunks.. Do not leave it on any longer than 5 minutes.
It will pit the barrel if left in for a long time and it will eat aluminum and will remove blueing if you let it stay on the blueing.

I want to warn everyone about using this formula.

The mixture will actually dissolve lead, and form a type of liquid (lead acetate?) that can be absorbed through your skin.

Use caution, and perhaps latex gloves.

I used to use Hoppes Bench 9, but I swapped over to Hopes Elite after watching my bestie make his very well used 1986 686 look new in a matter of minutes with hardly any effort. No smell or eye irritation either. Best stuff I've ever used. Big bottles are on amazon.

I got my dads old 357 mag 6" barrel and there was no rifling it was just a lead filled hole.
He never cleaned his gun barrels did not have any cleaning rods or brushes in the house.
LPS on a rag and wipe down the outside is the best his guns ever got.

I had to use the peroxide vinegar as nothing would remove the lead all the way.
I did 3 treatments of the mix and between soaks I would clean and and scrub with Chore Boy.

Then clean/lube like you would any gun and dry patch it out.

I use that mix to clean my .22 suppressor baffles. When that stuff dissolves lead, it creates lead acetate. Pretty nasty stuff. You can absorb it through your skin. Make sure are wearing nitrile gloves
