So I know there were some problems a few years ago, but my wife carries the new Mod.2 and it seems to work well for her. Never a problem, but of course, she doesn't have thousands of rounds through it.

Very good friend of mine wants 2 handguns, one to carry, one to keep at home for him and his wife. They are new to guns.

They came over the other night and I brought out a bunch of handguns and let them try them out, just to see how they fit in their hands, etc.

The XD Mod.2 in the compact and full-size stuck out to them head and shoulders above everything else, and they want to go shoot them this weekend.

But my gunsmith who built my rifle is adamant that they are total crap, everyone he knows who has had one has had problems and I should not let them buy them. I've done some research and seen some stories still out there, but it doesn't seem to be the massive amounts of failures he leads me to believe, but I thought I'd ask here and see what people think who have been using/carrying them.

And yes, I did have a coffee table in the vicinity, but luckily there were no 'incidents'.

I think it is a pin internally that was causing the majority of the problems. It can be replaced easily with a much higher quality pin, and I believe the XDS series doesn't have that design issue.

But I don't want to recommend these to a good friend if they are the total pieces of shite I'm being told. Not to mention getting it out of my wife's purse.

Of course, he says tell them to just get Glocks - but we all know Glocks aren't the most comfortable guns for a lot of people.

I've got an XD 9mm subcompact with several hundred rounds through it (at least) with no issues. I've also got an XD Mod 2 subcompact in .45, but it has been shot very little. Still, no issues. I was not aware of the reported pin issue you speak of, so I may need to do some research. I know of one female gun shop owner who carries an XDS, and she loves it.

I have both the XD Mod 2 in subcompact and the full size. I've shot over a 1000 rounds in the full size with zero issues. The subcompact is what my wife carries and it's only had a few hundred rounds fired with zero issues, both weapons look brand new. Keep in mind, I'm very meticulous in my cleaning and inspection of my firearms. Springfield XD's were recommended to me by a good friend who shoots a lot, and he does own a few XD's, as well as some bigger name weapons.

Can you estimate how many you've put through them?
Both will eat anything I put into them and I would guess about 600 for the 40 and 500 for the 45.
The only mod I have is an extended slide release and mag release on the sub.
I want night sights for both but haven't decided which one.

I'm currently on my 3rd XD (the first was a 4" XD9, the last two are 4" XD9 Mod 2). About 15,000 rounds through each of the first two, without a single hiccup (except for one box of purchased reloads in my first pistol, and I threw away the last half of that box... learned my lesson about "trustworthy" ammo!). Although I have no experience with the subcompacts, I highly recommend the standard 4" XD9.

And, of course, Daisy approves, too! :hey3:
