Coalgate, Ok.
Soon you'll find app only stores. Buildings will just be sorting centers.
Walmart has felt the heat and now trying to compete with Amazon, but may be late out of the gate. I guess they could sell their stores to Amazon.

For many years, I had been saying that I would gladly give up my technology if that is what it took to get everyone else to give up theirs. It seemed like a small sacrifice for all of the good I believed it would do. e.g. my daughter and grandson sitting on my love seat, texting each other instead of just talking. Well, I got my wish. Hurricane Michael knocked my internet out the morning of October 10, 2018. I had no water, no electricity and no internet. I used a bucket to get water out of the pool so I could flush the toilet. I ran my generator to get electricity. Those were minor inconveniences, compared to no internet. Before I lost it, I had no idea about how much a part of my life it was. Nothing I could do would let me have internet. Due to overwhelming demand on their crippled networks, cell phone carriers shut down tethering, so that didn't solve the problem. A few times I drove 70 miles, one way, to get a wifi connection. 79 days later I got my internet back. That was the longest 79 days of my life.

Fast forward to today. With all of the recent changes in our society caused by covid-19, antifa, BLM, politicians who behave like dictators, social distancing, virtual school, work-from-home, canceled events, quarantines, virtual doctor visits, over the top political discord, lay-offs, business shutdowns, and millions of new, untrained gun owners, I predict that a widespread and lasting internet outage could be the spark that would ignite this powder keg we are sitting on.

It's not *your* ability to use the internet that would make the world a very difficult place to live, it's everything else. Credit card machines stop working, you can't access bank accounts, quite possibly the electric grid would fail. In all honesty, I only think that a handful of very smart people have any idea AT ALL how bad it could get. Look at COVID...nothing too crazy about that, but damn if it hasn't disrupted the hell out of life and they STILL aren't sure about all the ramifications. How long did it take to figure out that a silly thing like chicken pox could come back 40-50-60 years later as this miserable thing called shingles?!?

Hell, just last week, a CloudFlare issue kept me from getting on about 75% of the websites I use which includes Vanguard which is one of the largest financial brokerage firms in the world.

So to trying to figure out what would happen if the "internet went down" is unpredictable. I do know that it would be very, VERY bad.

Along with "If the internet goes down" many people do not realize their cell phone is totally dependent on the internet and it will go with it also.

There are a lot of situations were local internet can be down, along with other utilities, storms being the most common.

Myself, I spew electrons directly off my Ham Radio antennas locally and to other Ham Radio operators antennas around the world on a daily basis. I only need 12V power for my radios to do that reliably. It is relatively easy to study and get a license, some 10 year olds have done it and it is a great family hobby you can participate in whenever you want with great comradery. Equipment does not have to be expensive but can be as elaborate as you want.

Anyone here is welcome to PM me if you have questions or an interest in the hobby that might be useful some day, no different than target practice.
I am with you. I would spend more time on the radios. Mine are in my shop which is solar powered. I would still be able to send email to others through the radio. I would also be available to help people. I am in Mustang if anyone around here is interested.

Sounds good. I'm too old to draft. I liked the music. And I'm pretty sure I could find another $2600 to buy that brand new '69 Firebird again.
