Both were singers and songwriters, got some fame during the "Outlaw" country phase of the 1970s.

I did not know Johnny Bush had voice troubles that kept him from performing for years. He wrote "Whiskey River" that was a big hit for Willie Nelson but I first heard him on the radio singing the drinking song "Green Snakes on the Ceiling" and said I have to find out who this guy is.

I didn't know Jerry Jeff Walker got his start in New York City. He wrote "Mr. Bogangles" and I remember he sang somebody else's song "Up Against the Wall Redneck Mother."

Man, I walked down the aisle singing Whiskey River. I was so, so nervous and it was the last song on the radio before I got out of the car.

JJW, was always good for this Texan.
