I just purchased a Springfield model 67E pump shotgun in .410 bore. I have never owned one of these. The gun appears to be about 90 percent overall. A little work needed in a few spots on the metal and a refinish of the wood but nothing major. Functionality is very good as it is mechanically sound. Anyone have one of these or know the value? Is a .410 worth more than a 12 or a 20? Any information or opinions would be welcome.

Every 410 i have ran across in the past has been higher than a 12 or 20 due to the fact they just aint as popular as the 12 and 20 due to the fact that the ammo is 3 times higher. That being said i bought a older WesternField Model M550ED for 240 a year ago.

Well I've got 12 Gauges and a 20 Gauge and I've always wanted a .410 bore. Not sure why. Maybe just because I don't have one. Not sure about your theory that they're priced higher because they're not as popular. I can't seem to apply that to anything else. Maybe because they are such a departure from a 12 or a 20 or even the old 16 gauge that they're just not suitable for many things. I can't see someone duck hunting with a .410 for example. As a youth gun, rabbit, squirrel or snake gun many people prefer them but because they are kind of specialized to those types of things they, and their ammunition, are higher. Just a guess. Wasn't that Westernfield made by Mossberg? Seems like my first 12 was a Westernfield from Montgomery Ward.

Thought about doing something like this. Barrel cut to 20" and re- choke to full choke. Install an XS Big Dot front sight and maybe a ghost ring rear. Shorten the buttstock a couple of inches and put butt plate back on. Stock re-finish and Cerakote metal. Or maybe I'll just leave it the original length. Definitely going with the XS front sight. Main thing is that this is not a collectable gun. You can do anything you want with it and you don't have to worry about devaluing it. Question is what to do. Any thoughts?

Received my Springfield 67E .410 pump shotgun today. Very happy with it. Just gonna' leave it exactly like it is. It's a pre 1968 GCA and has no serial number. A little older than what I was expecting and very nice.

Excellent squirrel and rabbit gun.
Good solid shotty.
I have a 67 in 12ga. Used mainly as a loaner, when taking someone goose hunting that didn't own a shotty. Turned into son's gun, he loves the thing.
Also, have a .410 pump, an 870.
Reloading makes them very cheap to shoot.

Nice. :thumb:

My first firearm was a Stevens .410 bolt-action (a later model of one like my Dad's). Got it for Christmas when I was 12, and still have it.

However, if I'd known the price of ammo, I'd have asked for a 20ga.

I probably used Dad's H&R 16ga single shot more than my .410, because I could buy 16ga shells (local Gibson's had it imported from Mexico) for $1.88 per box. Shells for the .410 were over $4. :/

Lotta good memories as a kid growing up in the country.

Yeah I don't know what it is about an old .410 shotgun. Just seems like your gun rack isn't complete without one. Ammo is expensive though and that's if you can find it. I've been pretty fortunate finding shells on line. Wow! A buck eighty eight for a box of 16 gauge shells. what year was that? Do you remember the brand? I remember having a Gibson's Discount Center in our town.

It was in the 'early 70s in Denison, TX. The guy at the gun counter knew us pretty well and would also sell me .22LR (Ha! 77 cents for a box of Federal), but he said to keep it quiet. :D

I don't remember the Mexican ammo brand, but it was in yellow & black boxes, and had an image of a Thunderbird on the box. The shells were high-brass, yellow plastic and (I think?) mostly #4 shot. I don't recall any misfires.
