Grandson got it done around 7:40 this morning. His biggest buck so far. He said after the fact that he should have given it at least another year but, well, you know. About 100 yards with a .308 shooting a Sierra 125-grain ProHunter. He said it dropped in its tracks.

I hope you didn’t take my comment wrong, because I wasn’t disrespecting your grandson’s buck by any means!!!

It just struck me funny since I had a guy that hunts south of my place up there tell me the exact same thing last week while showing me his buck. That guy is young, and I bragged on his buck and tried to make him feel good about his success. However, I’m pretty sure the guy that’s over the lease (who had passed the buck) had already reamed him for shooting it.

Oh no, no, no, no! No offense. I didn't say a thing, but I kinda' wondered if he didn't make that statement because he thought I might say something about 'should have let it walk.' It's kinda' like buyer's remorse. If anybody has shot very many deer, I'm betting that at least once, they have questioned after the fact if they should have 'let him walk.' I know I have.

Oh, more times than once for me.
Pass on the congrats. That’s a great buck!

Congrats to everyone on their harvests . . . . I'm planning to try and get out this afternoon.

As far as rut activity or any activity at all . . . . I'm seeing groups of doe together and got these pics of 2 young bucks hanging out.

Debating on whether I should take one of them out of the gene pool if I get the chance.

Those bucks look very young, so if you’re looking for an opinion of whether to shoot one or not, my suggestion is to shoot a doe instead. My deer management ideas aren’t for everyone, but I try not to shoot a buck less than 5.:anyone:

You think they're 2 or 3?

Taking one out isn't at the top of my list. Just not sure I like having that one with a long spike on his left side out and about. [emoji1787]

I would speculate they’re both 18 month-2 years old, and I wouldn’t worry about the spike side at this point. If I was going to be concerned about a negative trait, it would be the buck in the foreground only having one brow tine .:anyone:
