Any fellow amateur radio or GMRS folks here?

Just got my technician, and I also have a GMRS license. I'm trying to figure out how to reach the repeaters if there's anyone out there with more experience who might want to take me under their wing.

Likewise, if anyone wants to play around on GMRS, my license allows me to talk to friends and family without them having to get a separate license. We could figure it out together.

I'm in the NW OKC area. I was able to hit a GMRS repeater in OKC one time, but I haven't been able to since. Not sure what magic sauce I was using that I haven't been able to replicate since. I'm not sure if my settings are messed up or if I just haven't tried when someone else happened to be listening.

Haven't been able to hit any amateur repeaters yet.

With the new solar cycle it is a good time to get your license. Soon Japan will be loud on 10m.

Not into GMRS, but do some amateur radio. You should be able to hit amateur repeaters in OKC. What type radio are you using? Do you have the "PL" tones set? Do you have the correct frequency offsets? Mike KI5DF....

I'm definitely going to get an HF rig soon. Unfortunately I'm limited to SSB and CW on the 10m. I'm pretty interested in learning CW.

For the moment though I'm just trying to figure out how to use my Yaesu FT65R on vhf/uhf. I have a n9tax ladder antenna strung up in my attic.

ft65r with a n9tax antenna. I'm pretty sure I have the tones and offset programmed right, but I don't know if maybe the settings in the radio are off. Pretty clueless as to what most of them are, and Google hasn't been helping much.

No GMRS here either. Getting back into ham radio again since retirement. You will have fun. The PL tones and correct frequency offsets are the first thing I thought of too. There should be a ton of repeaters around OKC. You might try calling on 146.52 direct and see if you can make contact without the repeaters. Here is something that I have been playing with here recently https://www.work-sat.com/
So far have only made one contact, but have done a lot of copying the mail.

I can't wait to use the repeater on the ISS. Been excited about that since taking my test and finding out about it that way.

I have heard it several times, it has a strong downlink and no tumbling. I use an app called SatSat for orbital data.

If you figure it out make sure you share it with the rest of us! I've had a cheap little HAM unit for a while can't figure it out for the life of me. I am pretty sure I will need a remedial class before long lol.

Where are you located? Maybe there's a repeater in between that we can both hit.
