What software do you use for psk? I use Ham Radio Deluxe (with paid license) for psk, rtty, and other digital modes. I also use it for CW without having to actually get proficient. I’ve made a couple of attempts to learn CW with a keyer, but I get frustrated and give up. Digital modes and CW really open-up worldwide communication, even when propagation is reduced.

Just for information, there will be a Mayes County Amateur Radio Club tailgate swap meet in Pryor, OK January 23 inside a church gymnasium and we are expecting a pretty good turn out. It is open to anyone interested in ham radio, learning about our hobby, buying or selling ham radio equipment, or just having an opportunity to see and talk with some of the ham radio operators face to face. There will be a testing session at 9AM for those who are ready to test to get their license or upgrade.

For more information go to www.mcarc.me or PM me.

I think, given the circumstances, you might jump in your vehicle and go park it someplace where you should be able to hit multiple repeaters. Not too far from you would be Lake Hefner by the Ranger Station. Another good spot would be North across from Baptist Hospital by the Schlotzsky's, as high ground as you can reasonably get to, or in the parking lot at the SW corner of NW 56th & Lake Hefner Parkway. These won't have much obstruction for your signal.

If you are able to hit any repeater, then you will know that your radio is working. If that's the case, your home antenna may have a bad coax or coax connection, or just won't work well enough.

If you only had an external magnet mount 2 meter antenna to put on the top of your vehicle that would greatly increase efficiency above a rubber duckie antenna. They are very inexpensive.

Just got my technician, and I also have a GMRS license. I'm trying to figure out how to reach the repeaters if there's anyone out there with more experience who might want to take me under their wing.

Haven't been able to hit any amateur repeaters yet.

Did you have success getting on a repeater??
