Anyone in Tulsa or OKC have the tools to re-barrel a Garand? Barrel vise and receiver wrench? I've done a couple carbines and Fals but never got around ordering or making the tools for the M-1. Or if you know of a smith that could do it and check headspace that would work also. Got a 6 digit with a 1941 barrel and pretty sure it is original but some dipstick cut the last 1/2" off, want to put a good condition 1953 SA barrel on it.

Dave @ MacKools on 31st in Tulsa has rebarreled several for me does a good Job.
You need to have the gas cylinder so it can be aligned.

This might have been done due to excessive muzzle wear, as such wear is common on pre- and early WW2 barrels. Do you know the throat erosion reading?

Thanks all, this is one I'm giving my stepson who lives up that way. I'll pass the info along. After he carried the M4 in the sandbox and shooting my very late production H&R he's coming to appreciate the wood and steel arms and the guys who carried them.

No, I do not have TE gages, the barrel looks like it's definitely had corrosive ammo shot through it though. I realize it still might be a good shooter as is but it just doesn't look right.
