Those guys are beyond the well above average range on their reaction times. ---- I never raced again after that, I never could mentally get back in it. Now I just watch in awe at what those riders can do, it really is a magnificent feat when you consider the speed, timing, and how little of the bike actually makes contact with the ground.

Damn dude you are lucky and wise.

That contact patch is small but the real crap yer pants moment for me would be the shimmying when landing an off camber jump those guys do regularly. I would be shaking so bad you wouldn't know if it was me or the bike. Guarandamntee it would be me.

I went to school with a guy whose brother raced the super bikes. I was talking to him one day and said I can imagine it's a huge rush, but something about the possibility of laying a bike down at 200 mph just doesn't appeal to me. He just shrugged and said, "Ah. It's fun."

My old boss used to race super bikes but wouldn't ride on the street. Said it was too dangerous.
Exactly. I only road on the street twice. The first time was to get the bike to our house from where we bought it. The second time was 15 years ago, my buddy needed help getting his bike home after he broke his arm doing something stupid. I stopped in the old Ace Hardware parking lot across from Heritage Park mall in Midwest City to fix my helmet strap (I lived behind the mall at the time). As I was leaving, this lady cut through the parking lot diagonally and hit me about 25 mph. Knocked me off the bike and broke two bones in my foot (wearing sneakers instead of my riding boots). She tried running but a bunch of people witnessed it and blocked her in. Cops came, took statements. She claimed I was the one cutting across the parking lot. Cops arrested her. The people helped me get the bike back upright and I rode the bike 2 miles to my friends house with my broken foot. An officer was nice enough to follow me to my friends house to drop the bike off, then took me to the hospital to get my foot fixed. Last time I ever road on the street.
People aren’t paying attention and just don’t care.

I bought a 2004 Honda XL 650 on/off road new as my only street bike. After years of riding the dirt I felt safer on that type of bike. On my first ride from home a pickup backed out in front of me two blocks from my house. I put about 4000 miles on it and sold it.

Never raced bikes but have racked up thousands of road miles, luckily without narry one accident. Road a KZ1000 from coast to coast in January of 78. When I got to San Diego it was my only transportation for 6 months. Couple trips back here then traded it in on an Aspencade. Daughter and I made the trip back here from San Diego on the Honda for her 11th grade summer vacation. Bought a 99 1500 Gold Wing after I moved to Oklahoma, present wife and I made a business trip to the east coast that summer. Shortly after that trip I decided the cards were stacked against me, sold the 1500 and haven't ridden since. Well over 100,000 between the 3 bikes figured that was enough and my luck could run out any day.
