ATT.
When I moved out to Mustang I got the ATT bundle. I was pissed when they wanted $6 a month to not be listed in their digital and paper phone books, so I started looking elsewhere.
I couldn't get anyone on the phone until the day after my Cox services had been installed.
They told me that I could not cancel my services because the social I gave didn't match the social on file.
Yep. They typoed my social when I started service.
I called daily for a week, on day two, before I would give my info "to access the account", I would request that the call be recorded. I went thru my spiel for 7 days in a row, and on day 7 I asked to be transferred above the supervisor I was on with. After having HIM say "yes sir, at your request this call is being recorded", after trying again to cancel and being told I couldn't because of the social, I told him that I had been trying to cancel service for 7 days and this was my official notice that I was no longer their customer, and their equipment would be in a cardboard box on my porch.
"Sir, you can't do that!"
"It's already been done. Apparently *I'M* not the customer you signed up for the service. Thank you, have a nice day."
Five days later I received a "final bill" and a prepaid label for the equipment. The bill was post dated for a full billing period, which wouldn't have happened, but it reset during the week I had been trying to cancel service. I called them back, and using my calculations, paid the bill for those 7 days. They asked about the other balance. I told them to do whatever they wanted with it. They immediately offered to drop it to $64. I politely passed paying that and ended the call.
One month later, receive a PAST DUE bill. I filed it away with no intent of paying. Same thing next month. The next month, a bill from a collections agency. I called and notified them that it wasn't my bill, social didn't match. They never contacted me again.
The debt was sold FIVE MORE TIMES.
After getting a collection notice from the next company, I'd call and say the same thing.
Not my debt.
Apparently the sixth collections agency just dropped it.
Still $64.
But now my credit is DOVA'D.
A couple years later, I learned that you can dispute anything on your credit report.
I disputed all six collectors, plus the original ATT ding on my report as "not valid debt, not my social security number".
It took about a week and everything remotely related to ATT was wiped from every credit report I can view.
Att sends me letters once a month now to get me to come back. Can't get the letters to stop because I don't have an account. We use them for kindling for the fire pit now.
Sorry, this was quite the lengthy post, but at least it has a happy ending.
Don't be sorry about the lengthy post. You explained it nicely. Tell me how did they accept payment when you had no account?
I just love it when the crap they pull backfires on them.

At the time I made that like 18$ payment, I still had a "closed with balance" account in their system, before it was sent to collections

I let my wife take care of customer service issues. When she gets done with them, I'm sure they are rolled up into the fetal position in a corner somewhere. That's the way she leaves car salesmen and street vendors we deal with in our travels. That woman is ruthless.
I'm going to go the other direction on an issue. I saw a mention of the VA.
A year ago they got a trigger on a semi annual test that drove them to do additional testing. I had two colonostophys, an Upper GI, and swallowed a camera that took a zillion pics on its way through the digestive system. Some minor irritation in the small intestine is all they found which has cleared up.
Wife and I both were impressed with the level of calls to us from the GI clinic in the OKC VA Hospital explaining what they found, what was going to happen and when it was going to happen. We have nothing put praise for that group.
I will agree that contacting them is a pain unless you capture the clinic's phone # and store it on your phone contacts.

We've been pretty impressed with the VA here in OK. Actually helpful and pretty quick at scheduling my wife's surgeries and appointments. Compared to Anchorage, AK and Lexington, KY it's night and day. Both of those went 4 years without diagnosing her massive kidney stones despite having them on CT scans and her constant kidney infections. If not for the Choice program in Alaska getting us a real urologist, she would have likely died. She hasn't once wanted to go outside the VA system since we moved here in 2019, so I still remain surprised.

That IS surprising to me. Man, if OUR V.A. system is considered "good", I can't fathom how effed up it is other places.

Right now I'm on "hold" with a worthless, unconstitutional group of law-enforcement hall monitoring, dog-shooting, rights-violating pieces of feces...the ATF. Sometimes you get a human being on the line, usually it's just another government drone.

Colleges
I remember in college I had to pay for my cap and gown and tassel which I never wore. My "graduation" was during the summer as I had to take an athletic class to graduate since the college messed up my records by not processing my dropped bowling class. I never attended because of my custodial engineer job at the local bank. It had "withdraw failing" on my transcript because someone didn't do their job. Even though I was in ROTC and had passed all my PT tests and had rappelled down 500 ft. cliffs, shinny out 100 ft. and drop 50 ft. into a pond and rappelled out of helicopters I still had to take golf class. This was a joke in itself because all they did was hit golfballs with a 9 iron from one end zone to the other.
I never set foot on a golf course.
I also remember having to buy the course material in some classes and was told by the instructor to not even crack open the book. You bought the books for hundreds and only got back tens even if they were factory sealed. Talk about a racket.

It may just be that specific team and urologist we've been dealing with. I think she's had 3 or 4 lithotripsies since we've moved here at Muskogee (she's missing her ilium, so she grows stones incredibly well). And yeah, the bar was set incredibly low. To the point of it almost feels like they were trying to murder her before. The Tulsa clinic and Muskogee hospital have been alright tho.

When I got a cell phone, they overcharged our final land-line bill by $5.62. They sent a debit card for the balance.

Yep, a regular debit card, that I had to call and activate. For $5.62. I had the water company apply it to our bill.

And guess what else? There's a $3.00 monthly fee on the card (yeah, good luck with that). And I can't close the account until 8 days after using the card. And if I don't close it, it will remain active (apparently for months).

Idiots.
:drunk2:
Well, it's been 9 days, so I called to close the account.

The lady said it will close automatically, and I don't need to do anything else.

I guess time will tell... :lookaroun
