I know, and I agree. No matter how you slice it, even if a background check at a gun show did actually save a life, you still can’t cover up the fact that if that person who bought that gun wasn’t able to buy it were he did, there’s always somewhere else where he could’ve gotten it.

New firearms regulations aren’t new in my opinion. It’s just the same old stuff that’s been trotted out for the last 100 years. Go read the congressional hearings on the NFA and you’ll hear the same arguments that are made today for stricter firearms laws. Yes, they even had regulating magazine capacity on their mind back then.

I’m sure that back in the day gunshows were the place to find and buy guns, ammo and accessories. There was no internet to buy stuff from and mail order gun buying was outlawed in the 60s, I believe. Hence, it’s the “gunshow loophole.”

There are absolutely people abusing the right to sell personally owned firearms, but I don’t believe that making every average guy/gal go through the extra step of a background check to sell their property is going to do much for stopping illegal firearms sales.
