The 1947 Dodge truck I have came with a 1965 425HP 396" rectangular port heads and dual 4 intake.
No the intake was not factory offered that particullar engine was in the truck but my dads buddy pt it there it came he ran it in super gas class in a Chevelle with 4 speed and 4.11 gears.
Dual 4's and a different cam..No head porting as I had the heads off of it when I bought the truck in 1987.

He ran 9.8 at 145MPH in that chevelle.
Shifted that 396" between 8000 and 8500 RPM.
Solid flat tappet cam.
On the Engine dyno that 396" made 625HP
What was the drivers name and year did that 396 stock headed 8000/8500 rpm Chevelle run 9.8 @145 mph with a 4 speed flat tappet cam.

FWIW... here's a '67 Corvette maintenance manual.

While it doesn't show 454 as an engine option, it does show the oil capacity for a 454.

"Crankcase Capacities: 327 & 350 Engines – 4 quarts, 427 & 454 Engines – 5 quarts."
https://www.corvsport.com/1967-c2-corvette/

Was hoping to find a copy of that old GM wall chart, but no such luck. And I'm pretty much googled out at this point... :D

James Hull I do not know what year.
But it was before 1972 as that is when the 1947 dodge project began.
I know the index is higher than his ET and he just could not be competitive because he just could not get the ET thing down.

Like me I do not want to run ET races i want to run as fast as possible without letting off.
The car was gutted of everything and darn light.
I think then they had to weigh 2400 lbs could be 2100 though.

Was it dynoed before 1972 or before 1987 or after 1987????

It was stuck on the dyno right before it went into the 1947 dodge truck.
Some time in 1972.
It sat in that truck and never went down the road until I bought the truck in 1987.
I also sold it in 1987 to pay for my girlfriends pregnancy. Sold the engine to another guy.
Easy come easy go.
Then over a decade later she bought the truck back from the friend I sold it to.

A birthday present for me :)

That poor truck sat most of it's life.
I stuck it on the road with a 350" engine.
It sits now but has had 4 SBC engines in it since I have had it 350" 357" 336" 385" .

Going on #4 soon a 383" SBC

Retangular port heads with 2.19-1.88 valves on that 396" and 12:1 compression in a 2400 lb Car would be hard
pressed to not run quick.
We are not talking stock weight chevelle.
There was not much you could not do to the engines then but a cam and dual 4's does wonders.
A rectangular port head will not be any kind of restriction on a 396" engine even in non ported form.

If we use the Wallace calculator it shows minimal HP to get it done at 2400 lbs.
http://www.wallaceracing.com/et-hp-mph.php

My 78 Nova with a 350" at 2980 race weight would run 11.49 it was just a tick quicker than my V65 magna at 11.51 ET.
Takes only 400 HP to get that. Tiny solid flat tappet .475" lift after lashing it.

You can run mid 10's at 2400 lbs with 400 HP.

I am not doubting you and your logic as it does seem quick.
Super gas class cars are not your street car.

Rules today for that class.
Super Gas
Super Gas entries, which run on a 9.90 index, are primarily full-bodied cars and street roadsters. No dragsters or altereds are permitted. Rules regarding engine and chassis modifications are extremely liberal, though the use of exotic fuels is prohibited. The minimum weight is 2,100 pounds except for four-cylinder-powered cars, which may have a minimum weight of 1,200 pounds. As in Super Comp, competitors use electronic timers and throttle stops to run as close to the class standard without going under. Also as in Super Comp, races are staged using a four-tenths Pro start.

Notice the electronics mentioned to keep from running quicker.
I think back decades ago they used brakes at the top end of the track to keep from breaking out of the index.
:)

I say 2400 lbs because I think that was what the early rules were set at.
James told me the car was light, WAY light. I may be wrong on the 2400

I could never get a 4 speed to hold together in a heavy street car.
I have no idea how many he busted if any.
