My wife received one of those spam calls about unclaimed property in Missouri. I checked several years ago and had a few small items then. But that call prompted me to check again this morning and sure enough, she had two items amounting to $25.00. No idea where it's from, doesn't say. Not a windfall but it's hers.

Here is Oklahoma's if you haven't checked in a while:

Edit: Since I've lived all over I did check other states and Texas had a whopping $27.00 waiting for me to claim based on my address there at the time.

When my late wife died, I filed the papers on her will. The Attorney gave me a check list of things to do, one was check unclaimed property-check maiden names, previous names etc. I also checked by last name only and got a hit in Oregon. Since this where I started life I scanned the list and found unclaimed property for my dad. Dad died in 1952. Did the claim forms and found $500 that got split between my mom, my two sisters and I. Never did find out what is was for, just that it was owed.

Sometimes the utility company pays back overages the have charged you over the years that were adjusted to the actual usage and cost of the fuel. The state corporation commission makes them do it because they are a non profit. That is one possible source. Sometimes oil and gas production companies pay a royalty to land owners for adjacent lands.

Thanks for posting this. I found that I had around $75 unclaimed in Texas. Now we'll just see how long the claims process is.

I used your link and found 4 unclaimed listed for me and my father who passed away in 2015. I have no idea what it could be, hopefully its not a bill.

It seems to go by state. All I've done is Google: Unclaimed Property Texas, for example.

The Texas site has a bit more info than Missouri. I saw Death Benefits, Mineral Rights, Insurance pay outs, bank accounts.

There was someone with my last name (no relation) near where I live that had over 60 different line items listed. He had lots of entries that said: "over $50". That is all Missouri says if that line item is more than $50. I figured it was a dead guy and one Google search had his son's phone number. Name and addresses matched so I called. Sure enough, he died 10 years ago and his son had no clue about all that "property". I told him to get on the site and wished him well.

Oil rights...I found one at one point in time and it turned out my half-brother whom I disown, had the will made out leaving everything to him. I lost on this one as usual.
