Just found this animation on the working mechanism of an AR-15 a bit ago.

Might be worth a look... :drunk2:

Be aware that this may be a compromised site.
I wanted to share it with some new to the AR platform friends I've brought online and the options to send to my email brought up several out of the country folks that are using my email.
Obviously some of the spammers that are hitting my account including my IPhone.
I'm working on how to delete them but not having success at this time.

After building two (and from advice from many on here) the essential stuff for your first build are this:

A good roll pin punch set
lower receiver vise block
a good upper receiver vise block
a good vise
patience

For the lower receiver I've not seen any difference between the cheap mag well style vise block and anything else. For the upper receiver there are several styles that are good, you just want to make sure they use the star lock or the bcg area as their torque point and not the take down pin tabs. This is the one I use:

As for the components of the build, that is like asking which soda to drink for the most part. Best thing to do is make a budget, then research the parts you want and balance the cost vs quality. Just be careful, I set my budget for each build then went over by almost $200 on both lol.

How could this video have anything to do with your already existing phone issues?

You might try sharing another video and see if you get the same "options."

FWIW, the video link I posted was directly from youtube. I assume the OSA board software converted it to the presently formatted link.

Just ordered some tools, some mags, and a PSA stripped lower. Had a PSA rifle kit picked out, got busy, and they were out of stock. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the advice!
Which lower did you go with. They have a lot of cool options. Are you going to make an M4 style AR or are you going to do something with a free float and longer barrel?

I would suggest finding a factory assembled upper for a first build, unless you really just want to dive down the rabbit hole. I will say though that if this is going to be a one and done build it isn't worth it investing in all of the tools necessary to properly assemble an upper receiver. The Midwest Industries URR is the best reaction rod for upper receiver assembly. This is because it has a sail that keeps the rod from rotating in the upper, and it also engages the lugs on the barrel extension to keep the barrel from spinning and damaging the upper when torquing the barrel nut. The best place to start when planning a build is intended use once you have determined the main use. Research some of the builds or guns that are geared towards that use. Most parts are personal preference such as grips and stocks.

Definitely check out School of the American Rifle on youtube. He puts out good content on the AR15 platform.

Wow! That is certainly a nice reaction rod and I think I would prefer that one over the Geissele with that piece on top.

Thanks for sharing that, now each time I use mine I will grumble about it, lol.

I also agree with having access to a complete, functioning rifle to compare your build to. Invite a friend and take theirs apart for them and see how it comes to be broken down.
