I like the idea of letting people have farm raised meat and a way to get it to their table.
I skin all my birds.
I have zero need for the skin especially when it takes so much more time to process with skin on.
I skin hogs also.

As a kid we use to raise and butcher 200 turkeys and 50 chickens the weekend before Thanksgiving and sell them, Mom had a list of who wanted what and how many and would call just before we got their order finished and they would come out and pick them up. I was so glad when they quit doing that.

I butchered cattle, hogs, and chickens, I hated chickens. We took them downstairs to the basement and scorched the feathers off after plucking them for an hour. Took three days to get the stink of burnt pinfeathers out of the house.
Grandma left her harvest recipes to mom but sis has them now. As I remember it started out with 6 chickens, 20 lbs of potatoes, 10 pounds of onions, 10 loaves of bread, tomatoes, okra, green beans, corn, She was feeding a threshing crew every day. for about three full weeks.

We both know there are people out there that would be interested. Obviously not on a gun forum. If people have watched any homesteading channels on the internet then they would be aware there are people that do things similar to this already.

I think it will be a hard sale. Since the people that are interested in a home grown chicken may already be raising there own. From what I have seen, they might not have the funds to purchase a plucker.

I built my own 10 years ago and then I purchased a tractor supply one a couple years ago. I have not used the purchased one yet. Lots of bad reviews on them but I have modified mine and plan to put an elbow on the drain to further direct the water /feathers farther away from the motor.

For a small flock a simple turkey fryer and burner will work for a scalder. Slow as it might be, it will get the job done.

another possibility would be to sell them the chicken and offer your services to process them for X amount a bird. You might have to set a minimum to be worth the time and labor plus cleanup of your equipment. You would still not be selling processed food.

But liability has already been brought up. You can't control what happens to the bird once it leaves your place.

Nope, not into it. I look at it the same as I would dealing with a boatload a lot of fish on a charter; I pay the guy at the dock to skin 'em and wrap 'em. I'll drink a beer and watch the fish skinner's handi-work.
Been there and done that. Most have amazing skills at cleaning fish. Took notes and will try in the future.
I'm the opposite. I'm a scavenger of meat. The guy at the dock gets most but not all.
When I process a deer as an example, there is a pile of white bones. Almost zero take the rib meat from a deer. I take it all and add it to the ground meat pile. Its only a half pound or so, but its mine. I took the deer and want to use it all.

Half the people i know don't even cook especially if they are older so i doubt they will want to go out of the way to butcher a chicken. Now, i would be willing to pay a little something to come to your house if you would throw the chicken in the air like a clay target and let me shoot it with my shotgun and you could keep the chicken.

Sad, but I'd be concerned about liability if some idjit loses a finger... :anyone:
And the only thing worse than some idjit showing the jury a missing finger would be the idjit showing the jury a crippled up finger (like Fred Sanford) while crying that all the specialists say the pain and suffering will be there forever and that finger made them lose their dream job as a nuclear rocket surgeon.
