Sounds like a good place to stay out of.

I wonder if all the "tough guys" that don't think there's anything wrong with this had a loved one get thrown in there would feel the same?
The place has been going downhill since the trust took over, it needs to have some serious renovations done, but what do you expect in a 13 floor facility that may only have 8 officers working in it at a time?? The whole system needs a work over and the first thing that needs done is getting rid of the trust.

Covid and inmates killing each other lower that number.

I spent enough time in a jail cell to realize that is no place I ever want to return. I feel like most of my loved ones know how I feel about going to jail and so far, they have been successful in staying away from the sound of those doors closing you never forget.

I was in a foreign country and arrested along with 3 of my friends over a mistaken identity. No formal charges ever got filed and I will say that we got the feeling they knew they had made a mistake when we all got in the back of the police van that night. It happens more than we like to imagine, especially overseas where American's are easy prey to dirty police officers on the take.

I have friends who work at Ok County Jail and they admit it is brutal and none of them ever looked forward to their next shift there.

Not a single one of them.

Jail ain't supposed to be nice, but one thing that's supposed to separate us from the uncivilized world is how we treat prisoners. Jail is where you go, even if you're simply arrested, not convicted.

I'd gladly bring back work farms for convicts, and have zero problem with inmates earning their keep. Poor sanitation, improper food, unnecessary health risks - these are things that should not be in a First World jail.

Totally agree that place needs fixed. I'm not sure why we have so much trouble building and running jails. Granted, a lot of us probably don't think about what will happen if someone stuffs a mattress in a toilet to flood the area, but someone designing a jail probably should.

But, separate issue from what happened with the inmate, in my mind. The idea he was some kind of humanitarian looking out for his fellow man is stupid.

Yeah, I'm not on that team either. Just because he's a thug and an animal doesn't make the argument that the jail is a POS and in need of re-structuring moot though.

Agreed. I saw an anonymous employee say there was a time they had 6 people in the whole jail. If that's true, no one is safe in that place, most of all the people who work there.

You stick a knife next to the neck area of a LEO and you should expect to pay for that with your life.

This **** ain't hard. I don't care what the conditions are in the jail. Stick a knife to the neck of a LEO, for any reason, and you should expect to be shot, several times.

Okay, the jail is a shithole. It needs to be imploded and a better more well designed jail should be built out along the edges of the county somewhere, or where the old cotton gin is located. Turn the current non functioning jail into a parking lot for city hall. Again, this stuff isn't hard. All it takes is someone that isn't an idiot to be in charge of things. Which leads to the overarching issue with all of this crap; anyone smart enough to make the good decisions situations like this require is too smart to ever be in one of those positions that has to make those decisions.

Don't stick a knife to the neck of a LEO. That seems like a pretty simple concept to grasp.

the guys parents made the comment, they knew he for sure wouldn't do such things, it was the conditions that drove him to it...which is it? further, he was there on a gun and a rape charge. He can take a person most sacred possession as a human, but not do this....Ok right, even as a parent, how can you be so blind.

I love all 5 of my teenagers, and i hope with my soul none of them are ever in the situation on either side, however you make a decision, there are consequences, sometimes deadly.

Not a "tough guy", but if you don't want to get shot, then don't take someone hostage with a weapon. That goes double for my friends, family and loved ones. The rest fall along similar lines, with the exception of the COVID death and that doesn't seem like a statistical outlier when compared to the rest of Oklahoma.

I agree.

The "tough guy" comment meant for those internet hardasses that say "let them stay in a cesspool, they shouldn't be there to start with!"
The jail being a dump, dangerous, understaffed place worthy of a Central American country is an issue most would take up if it was their brother, son, daughter that wound up residing there for a bit. And for those that think they're above that, or didn't raise their kids that way, I hope they never find out how stupid and arrogant that is.
