Slide a dark cloth over the trap and then pick the trap up just don't do a lot of jarring around and most of the time the skunks wont spray what they cant see.

I check the trap when I first get up (normally around 4:00 a.m.) and I've always relocated the ones I've caught overnite in the trap prior to daylight so maybe they are somewhat calmer in the dark......@rickm I use a old, oversize, thick, dark navy blue beach towel and your way is the same way I've relocated around six skunks and (knock on wood) I have yet to be sprayed.

Set a cage trap, bait it with mini marshmallows... listen for the door to slam closed because they'll chew their way out eventually... or get yourself a paw trap and be sure to nail it securely to a beam or something... once caught you'll have to dispatch the varmint cause his leg will be badly broken. So the catch and release way or kill it way... but for sure bait with mini marshmallows to catch coons... sardines for cats, possums and raccoons... if it's a squirrel I wish you good luck sir!

I used to use live traps to keep stuff out of the feed barn when I was younger until I caught a skunk one day. I used a large stick to carry the trap to the back of the pasture and dispatched the skunk because I could find no other way to get him out of there alive. The trap stayed back there for a month until the smell dissipated.
Drop them into a barrel of water or use a kill stick that uses a syringe loaded with acetone on the end of a small LONG rod.
Actually one can use a tarp held so the skunk can't see movement with only the eyes over the top and no movement other that walking up to the trap. Just push the syringe into the skunk and it's over in seconds.

Squirrel with the small live traps using dry corn on the cob wired to the bottom of the trap just beyond the trip pan.
Prop the door open for a few days to give them confidence there is no danger and then remove the prop.

We have a troll, sorry but reed4ammo your post tells me you you don't have a clue what you are talking about, I live in the woods, I have a have a heart along with a bunch of both DP and leg hold traps, and nothing has ever chewed it's way out.
I started setting traps in the early 80's and have never had a critter chew its way out or chew a leg off. I live in NE Oklahoma now on a little over 60 acres of land, and deal with every thing from mice to bear. With bear a simple GET OUT OF HERE! has worked so far. Skunks are not a problem, I simply walk them off a few hundred yards and head shoot them. Catch one in the have a hart and just talk to them and carry them very gently off a few hundred yards and pop them, dump them out of the trap never been sprayed yet. Every thing else is shot on sight, darn tree rats have eaten the wiring to my challenger 4 times and my pickup twice, and the outside wiring to my house, I kill every one I see.
Racoons strip my bird feeders of seed and tear up the feeders. They are shot on sight. Bears are rare, so are the big cats. But as a lover of all cats I enjoy when I find tracks or the rare sighting of one.

There is a live catch skunk trap that is advertised as being "no spray".......but at $110.00 (+ shipping and tax) it's a little too pricey for me.
