Are you sure it’s “Chinese”?

The Vietnamese have been steadily taking over the poultry industry for the last 10-15 years, and they’re being given sweetheart deal by banks with low/no interest loans and (from what I’ve heard) don’t have to pay taxes. It wouldn’t surprise me that the same thing is happening in the pot industry.
It’s very hard for a white person to get into the chicken business unless you have a half million dollars in the bank, but from what I hear, the Vietnamese are getting in with no money down.
I will say though that all the Vietnamese chicken farmers I know are really nice hard working folks, and they pay me for the work I do way better than my other customers. Of course, that could be because they’re not paying interest or taxes...

I have two coworkers who told me the land next to theirs was bought and being used to grow pot by Chinese workers. One of them has them on each side of his property. They drive a Kubota back and forth and he’s seen them looking at his place. He’s expecting someone will approach him to sell.

The Vietnamese getting into the poultry business started during the Clinton administration. The migration actually started when he was governor. I used to work with 6 or 7 Vietnamese in Ft Smith back in ‘90 - ‘91. Most were actively assimilating to being Americans and were very hard working and friendly. Nice guys. Two of them were lazy pricks who still wore their north Vietnamese jackets when it got cold. Arkansas was paying incentives to businesses who hired them at the time.

Having lived in CO 20 out of the last 25 years, their "medical" cards are just as easy to get as here in OK. Once you play the "pain management" card, it just gets out of hand(no pun intended). I believe in CO the % of card holders for pain is like 90-95% with a small percentage what I feel is truly medical - glaucoma, cancer, .... If it's an alternative to someone being hooked on opiates, I'm good with it but most of those 90-95% are just recreational users and some street corner dealers. Card holder can buy 2 oz every single day and not trigger any red flags. None. If our gov't just limited to true medical use, there wouldn't be any substantial revenue and never be considered.

As for the land purchases, we bought 300 acres in early 2020. There was 20 acres owned by another guy. He was asking $3K/acre. Lots of Asian lookers so he up'd the price to $3500/acre. Since it's all wooded, no electricity, no water, there wasn't as much activity with the higher price. We've sucked it up and buying for $2500/acre just so nobody else is around our half section. Realtor confirmed the only people he showed the property to were of Asian descent. I met two of the prospective buyers so can confirm first hand.

What our government here is also over looking is where will all of this weed ends up going? With the over production that's going on, the prices will drop significantly resulting in these growers having THOUSANDS of pounds of surplus. You think they're just going to sit on it and let go bad? Nope - on the black market and being transported to adjacent states that don't have it legal yet. Recall when Nebraska and Kansas were suing CO to get back money for all of the possession arrests and being overwhelmed by the trafficking. Didn't work but was an eye opener.

Next up: Recreational just like CO and all of the other states. Why? Mo $$, Mo $$, Mo $$!! These grow shops, in my opinion, are preparing for this and will let the prices drop to run out the small operations then flood the market when recreational laws are passed.

Here's a possibility: In many counties, multiple buyers of Asian ancestry (Vietnamese, Hmong and ?) have bought land and are setting up grow operations. There is a lot of discussion and interest about this from neighbors and community members.

There's been some discussion and contention about it in the Jennings, Hallet, Meremac areas. It's been reported specifically that some with known involvement in the situation in the Navajo Nation have moved here.

More about what happened out West.

I don't know how many in this discussion took the time to read the articles linked here but it explains a lot about what's happening in Oklahoma.
