Good for you sir. I was on the board of directors of a small hospital for over 20 years. The one thing that would make me lose it was a Dr., RN, DON or any other staff not treating each and every patient like their job depended on it. Because it did. Dr's, of course, have you over a barrel and know it. Ours also knew I was young and happy enough to slap the holy **** out of them away from the hospital and accept the consequences. It never happened but it was enough that they knew I would.
We as patients don't understand that we have the power to make their life a living hell. A complaint filed at their particular licensing board can cost them their jobs and make them uninsurable (same thing) We all hear about patient rights but we never read them. Next time a nurse or Dr. gives you crap, ask for their info and want the patient advocate to come see you ASAP. You may even hear them pass a bit of gas before they crap themselves.

I know doctors are just humans like the rest of us. They know more about many things but are not perfect and we know our bodies better than they ever will. I put my trust in my doctors but it is with a large grain of salt and me looking up everything they tell me. I research every drug they prescribe me and have discontinued a couple that were giving me problems or un-needed. I always talk to my doc about it but I know my rights.

I think I would use one of the Cancer chat sites. These people have their own skin in the game and not influenced by stipends provided to doctors for referrals.
Oklahoma Cancer Society I think is still active. Chat with someone that learned the hard way. I use OKC and have used MD Anderson but MD is just not feasible for me because of distance. I would say your own Dr. but to be honest, they are cut in the deal. It's your life. Be the biggest prick on the planet if you have to. Ask those that went in blind and made the wrong choices before they found a good place.
You will make the right decision.

I've had 2 surgeries in the past 4 months, one was in Siloam Springs (AR) and the other in Oklahoma City. Chemo is next on the list and it looks like I will get my option of where to choose, since we're pretty close to the state line. I'm not going to make that 3 hour drive to OKC for it, so it looks like Tulsa or northwest Arkansas. I can tell you that there's a world of difference between the hospitals; Siloam is a joke (ER and otherwise), while OU was pretty amazing and had a great staff.

PS> I hope you don't mind but I've said a few prayers for you and will continue to do so.

MD Anderson and Baylor are two good cancer treatment centers that I know. With that being said, a lot of Doctors are like Gods to some people but hey are just like us, make errors and do things wrong sometimes. But let me tell you, some are only good for a signature and nothing more, not all Docs but some were not exactly A students in med school. I worked with many and we became friends in the military but I didn't know at the time that their signature was gold until many years later.
