Wife inherited her dad's JC Higgins 20 - 12ga. private labeled by High Standard 200. very smooth action. This gun has upgraded wood with cut checkering and roll engraving on the receiver. gun is in very good used condition. Gun broker has several base models in the low to mid $200s. wondering what additional value this gun might have? any knowledgable High Standard or JC Higgins guys out there?

I checked the 42nd edition Gun Trader's Guide but didn't really find anything useful... nothing close under High Standard. Under J.C. Higgins just said "see Sears & Roebuck". Under Sears and Roebuck just listed Model 20 but nothing about upgraded wood or scrolling. Your valuation is pretty close for a standard model, but I couldn't find any help for the upgrades.

appreciate all the thoughts and work. probably the smoothest pump I have ever cycled. If it was 3" chamber, I could see having choke tubes installed. Choke measures 0.033" smaller than bore which is inline for full choke by todays standards. shot shells in the 50s without plastic cups, just felt wads, needed lots of choke. might try patterning with heavy 2-3/4" shells to see if it would work as a turkey gun.

A dime will not fit in a full choke.

SPDguns, I have a Fox 20ga double that I do want to put chokes in. will u be able to do 12 and 20? As I have 1 or so Remington 20ga gun(s), I would be good to be able to use Rem chokes but will have to review wall thickness/barrel OD on Fox to see if they fit.

I have telescoping ID bore gages and a micrometer to verify actual bore diameter as measured. Dime measures 0.013" larger than my 0.691" choke bore. Good rule of thumb using the dime, thanks S.

Ha! You can win a lot of beer on that bet. Most figure a 12 gauge is way bigger than a dime being the smallest coin we have.
