One of my dad's friends is a retired oilfield welder, and he helped with the efforts to get the Bridge O' Doom between Lex and Purcell safe enough to temporarily reopen after they had the emergency closure a few years ago. He said the major problem they had was that "it doesn't work so well when you're trying to weld rust to rust."
