I have this 1920s Pieper Bayard .22 Boy's rifle.
It's a single shot .22. Shoots great and is in overall fantastic condition for a 100 year old firearm.
The issue is that the extractor keeps slipping off the case rim when opening the bolt. If I press down on it firmly with my thumb while opening the bolt it will work most of the time. There does seem to be good spring tension on it but I suspect the extractor claw is worn causing the issue. I tried taking a small file and squared up the inside of the claw. This helped a little, but it's still far from reliable extraction. I have also made sure to thoroughly clean the chamber and checked for any burrs or carbon buildup.

The problem is not only can I not find a replacement, I can't even find hardly any info on this rifle at all.

Do you have a picture of the extractor? I’m kinda with Mac, sounds like you could take metal off the part of the extractor that’s touching the bolt face which would allow the extractor to travel further.

I'm still trying to figure out how to remove the extractor from the bolt. Lol

looks a lot like a Stevens Crackshot. Might be a knock off like ala Westernfield but maybe not being European. Might be a toughie to find without looking on that side of the pond.

SPD is right it might just be crud buildup behind it or spring is tired if the lip on the front looks Ok.

Usually to take one out of a bolt there is a teeny pin or two to drive out with a proper size teeny punch.

It's gonna be the extractor spring and plunger all gooed up. Take it apart, clean it and put it back together. Or, soak it in penetrating oil, blast it with gun scrubber and compressed air.

The extractor seems to move well and has plenty of tension. I've been playing with it some more and what seems to happen is that it will partially extract, then the case binds when 1/2 way out and it pops right back in the chamber. I've tried this with a non fired case. The case will actually fall out of the chamber on it's own but as soon as you try to pull it out with the bolt it binds and slips right back in.

I've never seen anything like it.

I'll try soaking it anyway just to be sure.
