I'm definitely a cat lover,,,
I've always had at least one,,,
And actually prefer having two or more.

But on the rare occasion I find one with a mouse,,,
I take it away if possible and release it outside somewhere.

I just can't stand buy and watch any living thing be "terrorized",,,
It would be like watching a dog maul one of my cats,,,
Or watching a playground bully at work.

I understand life, death, and survival,,,
I'll kill an animal for any number of reasons,,,
But when I have done so it is quick and to the point.

Call me an old softy if you wish,,,
But I can't watch even a rodent's torment be used for play.

I can understand that. I prefer to trap mice alive and release them into the wild. My wife doesn't see it that way and she poisons them.

I stayed with my wife today while her daughter was at a funeral, and she told me that Penelope, the cat in the OP is now hers and will be coming home with us when she is well enough.

Penelope is a real nice kitty who loves to be held. When I go to Stillwater Monday, I'll take a picture of her and post it here.

We had some outside cats once that would kill moles/gophers and leave them at our front door.
We started 'buying' the dead animals from the cats by trading the dead animal for a fresh can of tuna.
Suddenly we (and our neighbors) didn't have any gopher problems.

I don't really care for cats but I totally get the rest of what you're saying. As a retired cop I was always comfortable with the possibility of being forced to end a human life. Came really close several times but never had to...but I don't think it would've have bothered me. But it's become different for me with animals in my older age. I hate to see any animal suffer needlessly. Hell...I'll even take spiders outside.
